DNS-323 FW 1.10 (oficial on TW site) and 3-4 Tb drives
« on: November 20, 2011, 08:32:34 AM »

Hi

I saw that the TW site had the FW1.10 (without any Beta sig to it) and all the applicable add-ons,
so that makes me think it is official. Right?
Refering to the FW on this site:
http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/ (1. select DNS,  2.select 323, 3.Press Go)
So the big questions:

1.
Will this FW1.10 work with 3 & 4 Tb drives like the ones below:
Current 3Tb
Western Digital Caviar Green WD30EZRX 64MB 3TB
and more
4Tb In stores any day now
Hitachi Deskstar H3IK40003254SW 32MB 4TB
Hitachi Deskstar H3IK40003272SW 32MB 4TB

See the list of 3 & 4Tb drives I refer to here
http://www.prisjakt.nu/kategori.php?l=s78880559&cols=104%2C1198%2C776&o=eg_104

2.
If I install the firmware, will my transmission torrent server still work? Someone tested?

3.
I would like to exchange the drive in bay 1 with my transmission server (1Tb 95% full) to a 4 Tb drive.
Bay 2 drive (2Tb 75% full) just contains storage data
Could I do the following:
A. Remove 2Tb drive from bay 2
B. Insert 4Tb drive in bay 2
C. Format 4Tb drive in bay 2
D. Copy all data from bay 1 (1Tb drive) to bay 2 (4Tb drive) - Do i need to make an image or is "copy" enough?
E. Move 4Tb drive from bay 2 to bay 1
F. Put back the 2Tb drive in bay 2

In my ears this should work, but I am not a specialist on the DNS-323 and linux.
I have installed transmission client and made some permission changes in the scripts, but it took me some time so I do not want to make that again, especially since I am afraid to destroy the permission table and not being able to access the data on the drives (allmost all data is locked to some user level).

Any experts, please advice :)

Regards

A file compare to v1.10b07 shows them as identical. Nothing new.

Hello,

this firmware does not support drives larger than 2 TB. If you want to do this the only way is to use Alt-F firmware 0.1BRC1 from Joao Cardoso. I am using it for quite some time and it is running great. I t includes a package distribution system by means you can add a lot of features which offer a big variety compared to DLinks stock firmware. And even in its beta stage it works more reliable than the 1.10b7.
