DNS-320 - Folder Sharing Question
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:18:27 AM »

This post was originally located in the DNS-320 Firmware Wishlist Thread

Apologies for posting this here (if it is the wrong place). I have posted a query regarding this, but it's also a wish-list item:

Previously I used a Windows PC to share many network folders. All users would have access to the folders, but restricted access / no access to some of the sub-folders.

Is there a way in which this can be done on the DNS-320, rather than having about 30 different shares?

Example:

\\NAS\Users\User1
\\NAS\Users\User2

User I would obviously have full access to their folder, but not User2's folder (and vice versa), but an Administrator would have access to both folders.

yes you can. At first it will be a try and error process until you get familiar with the interface and how it works.
it will be a combination of creating network shares/users/groups, it will all depend on your requirements.

example, I do have mine set with:
\NAS\all for all users to see
\NAS\user1 for user1
\NAS\user2 for user2
\NAS\user3 for user3 but he can see all the other users' folders as well.

also a question about this subject.

i made two groups.
admins and guests.

now i have access to all but for my roommates/friends i want to create an map they only can access/read and not my other shares.
now i have:
volume_1 ---> media, p2p, privat

i want to give them rights to only read media and not my private map.

is this possible and how?

Hi,
Franksetank, if I understand you correctly, you could just create a new network share consisting of the "media" folder, then just create your users for your friends and select the "media" folder(s) that you want to give access to.  You will be prompted to authorize "read/write", "read only", or "deny".  In your case since it is a sub portion / folder, you should be good to go with the "read only" for the "media" share.  Since they only have access to the "media" folder, I am pretty sure that is the only thing they can see.
