D-Link DWA-552 PCI Voltage Requirement,
« on: February 19, 2009, 03:22:16 PM »

So the datasheet on the product page contains only PCI 32-bit. It does not say anything about the required voltage for the card.

Can anyone tell/refer to the place where I could see the required operations PCI Voltage?

I notice you had another post about this same product and you were using Pyramid Linux, which appears to be a embedded specific distribution.  You also mention that you already have the bad boy hooked up and are trying to figure out driver issues.

Judging by the PCI standard keying available
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Local_Bus#Card_keying

And a picture of the card on D-Links website

And the fact that as of PCI2.3 all 5V only cards are dropped

I would say 3.3V for the win

Though I feel compelled to add D-Link can't officially assist you with dropping this card in to whatever device you are creating.

Hey Fatman,

Thanks for your reply but can you elaborate on this.

So you say it is 3.3 volts for Win, meaning Windows? Shouldn't it be same for all OSes? I am still not sure if the DWA-552 itself runs both on 5 volts and 3.3 volts PCI or either one of them? If either one, which one?

P.S: Yes, it is an embedded device running Pyramid Linux with following specs:

Specifications:

    * 433 to 600 Mhz AMD Geode LX single chip processor with CS5536 companion chip
    * 128-1024 Mbyte DDR-SDRAM, soldered on board
    * 4 Mbit BIOS/BOOT Flash
    * CompactFLASH Type I/II socket.
    * UltraDMA-100 interface with 44 pins connector for 2.5" Hard Drive
    * Serial ATA 1.0 interface for Hard Drive, with +5V and +12V power header
    * 1-4 VIA VT6105M 10/100 Mbit Auto MDIX Ethernet ports, RJ-45, protected to 700W/40A Surge
    * 2 Serial ports, DB9 and 10 pins internal header
    * USB 2.0 interface, one internal, one external port
    * Power LED, Disk LED, Error LED, Network LED's
    * Mini-PCI type III socket. (for t.ex. hardware encryption or wireless controller)
    * PCI Slot, right angle 3.3V signaling only, dual PCI slot option
    * 12 bit general purpose I/O, 20 pins header
    * Temperature and voltage monitor
    * Hardware watchdog
    * Board size 6.3" x 6.5"
    * Power using external power supply is 6-25V DC, max 20 Watt, protected with TVS
    * Option for 5V supply using internal connector
    * Operating temperature 0-60 °C

The reason for the posts was the different nature of questions and there would be people out there who would want to execute it Linux.

It means that should be fine, it is a common internet colloquialism and has nothing to do with OS.
