DIR-665 - Print to my network printer by wire but not WIFI
« on: December 31, 2011, 06:15:55 PM »

I don't see a forum for the DIR-665 so I am posting this here.

I have setup my network using the DIR-665.  I can print to my network printer (not plugged into router usb it is a Network printer) from WIN XP and Mac Snow Leopard and Lion via a network cable.

When I connect to the router via WIFI it shows the printer is ready.  Then I click print and it starts trying to find the printer but then fails saying the printer is not on the network.

Does any one know how to fix this issue?

I already tried this:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.  Setup reserved IP address for Network printer even though it is not plugged into the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

That I found on this post - http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40006.0

Some things to try:

Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection or WLAN Partition. if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

You will need to set up the printer twice since it will be using different IP ports when wired and wireless.  What I would do is set the printer up and call it {Printer}_wired with the IP port number and another instance called {Printer}_wireless with that IP port number.  You then can choose which one to print to.

Or have I read too much into to this and you are just connecting with a wireless laptop?

I think the printer is wired so he just needs to install it on the PC using the driver to the IP address give on the printer.

Still no luck after trying the above.  Turned off Short GI and WLAN Partition was already turned off.  All devices connecting to the router are set to auto obtain IP address.

It is a Brother laser printer with its own wired network port.  It has worked like a champ with all other wireless and wired routers.   Right now I have it setup Cable Modem > D-Link DIR-665 > Devices
Printer is hard wired and works on my networked wired WIN XP machine.
Laptop Mac Lion 10.7.2 works if I turn off the WIFI on the laptop and plug in a network wire.  When the laptop is hooked up via WIFI it sees the printer as ready and idle.  When I print it then shows up as disconnected.

This there is something going on with the driver or the set up on the PC your trying to print form wirelessly. I would call Brother up and see if they can help.

I deleted and re-installed the printer on the laptop which is a Mac yesterday.  Only wired computer is a WIN XP all laptops are Macs and none of them can print over WIFI on the new router.  The old wireless router allows everything to work with no issues.

My hunch is that the D-Link router is the issue trying to capture printer services for its USB port.  Would be nice if it had the option to turn off the Shareport service.

I thought you didn't connect to the USB port? The share port doesn't effect anything connected to the LAN ports.

I did connect a USB drive at one point to try and use it as a backup drive.  Then discovered that my printers were not working so I removed all the Sharepoint software and the USB drive.

Haven't done anything with the USB port since finding the printer issue.

Do you think that resetting the router to factory settings would turn off the Shareport if I activated it by connecting the USB drive?

Called D-Link tech support today.  They confirmed that this router is a new release.  Tech support level 2 was suppose to call me back in 30min.  Haven't heard anything from them.

Just reset the router to factory settings and started over again applying the suggested settings.  No luck. :-\

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer.

I would be open to that.  However, I just returned the router.
