Bug triggered by disabling wireless w/HW vA4 firmware 1.21
« on: March 07, 2009, 01:45:21 PM »

The DIR-655 is my first gigabit router - so I wanted to start by playing safe and turning all non-essential parameters off - including disabling the wireless radio (by unchecking the enable box).  With the wireless disabled, I immediately started having problems saving ANY subsequent configuration changes - unless I started all over by resetting factory defaults.

At first I didn't realize that disabling wireless was the culprit and spent several (unproductive) hours with Dlink tech support who kept insisting the issue was a conflict with my modem despite my efforts to convince that it wasn't!  After exchanging the unit for another at Fry's and having the same scenario repeat, I more methodically repeated each of my setup steps and eventually determined that opting to disable wireless as any point immediated resulted in not being able to save any subsequent config changes (without resetting factory defaults).

The best work-around I've come up with is to leave the wireless enabled but select the 'never' schedule option - with this combination the DIR655 reports the wireless as 'off' even though (I guess technically?) it isn't as the enabled box is still checked.

That is similar to a problem I experienced a few weeks ago ref: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=4405.0

I would suggest that you try the new 1.22b05 beta firmware available on the FTP site and see if it fixes the issue. The 1.22 beta firmware came out after I had to return the A4 1.21 router so I was not able to conduct further tests. I am interested in knowing if this fixes the issue.
