Problem with connection on internet
« on: December 25, 2011, 05:08:25 AM »

Hello
I have bought a new router to my parents these days, it a DIR-615 HW H1 firmware version 8.

We have a ZyXEL Prestige 2000 series DLS modem

There is no problems with connection to the DIR-615 router, but the strange problem occurs when I plugs in the internet cable. At the beginning the internet start to work fine but after some time the internet does not work anymore. Do somebody have any ideas what may cause the problem?

The internet works if I plug the internet cable in my computer and it also work with the old router.

Merry Christmas and happy new year to you.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?

If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

First of all thank you for the answer.

It is a DSL line and a ZyXEL Prestige 2602R-61 modem and I think it is a router. I tried the your suggestions excepts setting the router to bridge mode. First the DNS IP address did not filled under Setup/Internet/Manual so I filled them like you said but still the same problems. I'm no expert in routers and IPS modems but I have a good general understanding, I dont wants to mess up anything on my parents modem, do any have a guide to configure it.

PS. I will also try to update the software before, but d-link need to fix their FTP server

Peace out

Need to bridge the ISP modem or put the IP address the 615 gets from the ISP modem into the DMZ on the modem. Call the ISP and has for there help on bridging or using the DMZ on the ISP Modem.
