E-Mail Alerts not working in 1.06
« on: February 20, 2009, 09:27:09 PM »

I've got 1.06 and the Email Alert mechanism isn't working.

I've searched the forum for new info about my situation but no one seems to have a resolution.

I've got my DNS settings properly set up. I've followed the instructions as per my ISP.

What is the format to specify a different SMTP port in the SMTP Server field?

Do you accept smtp.gmail.com:587 or smtp.gmail.com 587 (using a space)

I've tried a server where it uses plain old SMTP Port 25 (the one for my ISP) and all I get back is
Test: Failure

I've tried specifying my username as just username and username@domain.com

I've also tried specifying the SMTP server as an IP address instead of a hostname and I still get a failure notification when attempting to test the email alert.

I just received and setup my DNS-323 a few days ago (2009-02-26) and as a NAS device it is working fine, so far. I upgraded to Firmware 1.06 right away, so I do not know about firmware 1.05.  I also could not get an email alert to work until I changed from account to anonymous.  Tech support kept telling me that I did not enter my user name and or password correctly. I told them I enter it correctly and even reentered it several time to make sure.  I also use Acronis TrueImage and it has an email alerts also and it works using user-name and password with the same information.  I can live with at lease getting an alert, but really would like to know why it it not working using a user name and password.  I tried both just my user name and 'use name@ispserver.net' to no avail.  I also am having problem with setting up a FTP server and also got no where with tech support other then they indicated that I should return the DNS-323, because it must have a software problem. I'm no expert, but I do not believe that is the problem.  Is there any way to contact someone on this forum directly to discuss all the problem I'm having.  Thanks

PS One of the problem with setting up a FTP server is it will not let me select a folder for a user or enter the name of the folder at Advance>FTP Server then folder browse.  It will go to my folders, but not let me select one.  I may be doing something wrong, but would like to discuss this with someone who has setup a FTP server.  Thanks again
