Hi all
new to the place, just regged purely because im thinking of buying a dns-323, and have a few q's before doing so.
I have read that fast forwarding hd has issue's, and although it doesnt bother me to much, (i cant see me doing that often) i just wondered if its the same for all types of hd e.g. wmv, x264, 720p, 1080p etc, or is it limited to say wmv 1080 for example.
another thing is, i intend to buy the device for streaming & Storing things that i frequently watch/enjoy, to my popcorn hour, which is currently setup with the myihome app on the pc, obviously this means having the pc in use alot, and i thought that by getting this device i wouldnt have to use the pc so much, so what i need to know is, will the dlink be picked up as quickly and easily as everything else on the popcorn or is there something i should know/do before hand.
also, does the dlink support schedule hibernation or is it planned in new firmware perhaps?
i know the device is good at saving power when idle, but i wondered can it be made to go to sleep at a certain time for example.
i have read that the device is gigabit but with my current setup im not sure what i will actually get, so i would appreciate if someone in the know can reassure me upon reading my spec atm, i Have the main pc which im using now that has a gigabit ethernet port on the motherboard, but i have quite an old router and dont know if this makes a difference, its a 4 port thompson, it says it supports upto 20mb, my line/isp connection however is 8mb, the popcorn is in another port of the router, and i have an old pc, P4 into another port of the router, the old pc has an old network card in, so it isnt gigabit, what i want to know is will i need to buy a "gigabit switch"
or will this not help due to my older router being part of the setup?
last thing is, as i have read on the supported drives list, the model of drives i have ordered arent on there, so considering that there is a model the same make and size on there 1TB WD, would i be right in thinking mine should work?
i called dlink support and the guy said anything upto 1.5tb, but i would rather get it confirmed from actual users if you know what i mean

the ones i have ordered (x2) are model WD10EADS 1TB
the one's on the list are WD10000CSRTL 1TB
thanks alot, sorry there's quite alot there lol
forgot to mention, at the moment when i ftp to my popcorn, i get 12mb's but this is quite a small old drive, so im hoping to improve on that with the nas
