Logitech Squeeze Center
« on: December 11, 2011, 09:47:42 AM »

Hi guys, having trouble getting squeeze center installed on my DNS 325.  I download from the dlink website, but then as I try to install, it gives me a link to down load another file from the Logitech web site.  As I start to download I notice that it's 7.3.2. which is no good as I've got a touchscreen ( built from an O2 Joggler but thats another story).  I noticed on the older thread that 7.6 was available, and I'm guessing by now possibly 7.7?  Problem is where do I find the files?  I've looked on the download links on this forum, on the logitech website but am really struggling.  I want to get this up and running so that I can give my MAC a rest and just run the squeezecenter from my NAS?

Thanks in advance guys!

P.S. sorry if I should have continued the old topic, but 'the system' suggested I start a fresh one as its so long since anyone posted in the old one!

7.5.3 is the latest build from dlink as a plugin.  You will need to go to the Beta part of the forum to get it.  It should behave the same and give you a link to download from.

I don't know if that build supports your touch, but I hope it does.

Great stuff, thats a start - got my info from the previous thread

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38269.0

OK, so I downloaded the file, tried to install it and got another link telling me to download the file from Logitech ((squeezeboxserver-7.5.3.tgz), but when I try to install I get a message saying 'Install Failed.  Please check file'

Any suggestions?

here is something i found that you may want to give it a shot

Quote
Since I have a few Squeezeboxes, which are currently supported by SqueezeCenter running on an old QNAP TS-109 Pro, I gave the DNS-325's implementation a shot. The install was confusing. Installing the file downloaded from D-Link initially shows you a message instructing you to download a file from Logitech and place it in the Volume_1 folder. But when you do that, nothing happens. I finally decided to try loading the D-Link file again with the downloaded Logitech file in place, which finally gave me an working server.

The fun wasn't over yet, though. When the SqueezeCenter server launched its setup wizard, I had to poke around the Linux file system it showed to find the public folder where I had copied my test music (Tip: look under /mnt/HD/HD_a2/). Once I did that I let it scan the couple of test folders and I was ready to play.

But when I tried to play the files, my player responded with a "can't play file". Long story short, it appears that the old 7.3.2 version of SqueezeCenter that you must use, doesn't support playing non copy-protected .m4a files (purchased from iTunes) that were among my test files. .mp3 files, though, played fine.

I tried to install the latest 7.5.4 Squeezebox Server by using the same method as above and renaming the downloaded Perl Source code version from squeezeboxserver-7.5.4.tgz to squeezecenter-7.5.4.tgz. But no joy. So until D-Link makes a more current SqueezeCenter version available, you better plan on playing only AIFF, FLAC, MP3, OGG, WAV or WMV files.

also updating to the latest firmware might solve some things, i guess. there's a new one out yesterday.

i'd forget about getting it running on the 325. even if it does install, i've managed it once and only once(i uninstalled it then tried to reinstall it has never installed again just get same error as you)) its no good because its out of date compared to the new squeezebox firmware. when using the duet when i ever swapped between napster and my stored music i get a message telling me i had to upgrade/downgrade firmware depending on which i was swapping to.
Also just to let you know the new firmware has actually made it worse, when trying to install it doesn't even offer me the chance to down load 7.5.3 it just tells me install failed.
Do yourself a favour and forget having the server running on your nas.

Don't forget about it.
Do this:
1. Download the 1.1 version of the Add On from the beta section of the forum.
2. Start the install.
3. Follow the link and download the .tar file from Squeezebox site.
4. Copy the .tar file to the root of Volume_1 on your 325. (and make sure its the only one there)
5. Run the Add On again.
6. Start the add-on from the Managment - Application Managment - Add Ons screen.
7. Click on the Applications tab.  Check that the Squeeze Center icon is under Installed Add-Ons.
8. Click on the icon and open the interface using the radio button on the next page.
9. You will need to go to /mnt/HD/HD_XX/ where XX is the drive number to start looking for your music directory.  Mine is in /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Music/Flac
10.  Delete the .tar file from Volume_1 root.

Yes there is a bit of an issue with the firmware if you use some online services.  There may be help at forums.slimdevices.com as well.

***install firmware 1.02 or the clock drift will drive you nuts.
