SOLVED - Cannot get internet through DFL-800
« on: February 15, 2012, 12:11:29 AM »

Hi everyone, I have a Netgear DM111P modem (not router) connected to WAN1 of my DFL-800 and I have followed all the guides out there (on the support site) and cannot get the firewall to allow traffic through it.

I have a PPPoE connection through Westnet which is fine working through the modem itself.  Even with static IP's configured on my machine I still have no luck.  Have tried STATIC, PPPoE, and DHCP options in the quick setup wizard with no luck.

Is there a basic ADSL configuration guide out there so I can at least get the internet working and then work on the firewalling side of things?

Thanks
Derek

hi

try to enable dhcp server on the modem and enable dhcp client on the wan1 interface

make dhcp server on the firewall device with ip range and net mask change the modem ip address if it's 192.168.1.1 to another ip like 192.168.2.1

in the dhcp server make sure that you define the dns1 and dns2

i think this ganna work with you

Hi, tried what you said but still cannot get it to work.  I can ping an IP address but cannot ping DNS names.  When I run the network diagnostics it says that the DNS server is not responding.  Even with static IP's in the network connections it still won't ping any IP's.

Any other ideas??

OK, I now have internet working and DHCP working fine too.  I needed to create a DNS relay for it to work properly.  Now, my next question is, how do I change the default IP range of this thing?  I have gone and changed everything in the Ethernet Interfaces area and DHCP scope but the firewall is still dishing out the 192.168.1.x IP addresses....

Anything I am missing?

Thanks

enter the dhcp server =>Edit the settings for this object=>option=>default GW lan-ip
and choose your primary and secondary DNS from the drop down list

save and activate

Yea, all good now.  For some reason the router wasn't saving the config file when I activated it.  Tried on a different computer and all is good now, thanks.
