DSM 750 wont work with WPA2
« on: December 09, 2008, 08:21:47 AM »

I have purchased a DSM 750 HD. @home I am running my wireless configuration using WPA2 personal.
I for the life of me cannot get the unit to connect online using wpa2. However if I change my encryption settings on both my DIR 655 to WEP and on the DSM 750 it will connect online and I am able to listen to live365. If I change the settings back to WPA2 on both the router and the dsm no luck.

I went a little further I took this box with me to my buddies house he has a netgear wireless router same results with wpa2.

Any help would be appreciated because I have contact dlink and been talking to techs that are reading support questions off a book or something and are from some other country. I need to speak to someone that can understand me and understand the technology not reading from a help desk manual. >:( >:( very angry with this product so far.

I have also tried putting the DSM750 Ip address on the DMZ while still using WPA2 no luck.
it wont communicate past the router however I can connect to the pc and look at pictures etc.. videos.

But when i look at the network connection status keeps telling me disconnected and I am unable to listen to streaming music from live365 or check for any firmware updates

WPA2 does work with the DSM-750.  I have the Linksys WRT600N, connected at 5ghz, WPA2, and it works flawlessly.  Have you updated the firmware yet?  If not, I would update the latest firmware via USB.

Already running 1.01.16 which is the latest. no luck. I am intriqued that you mention that you have successfully achieved what appears to be the impossible for myself and others.

I googled up countless threads where folks are having the exact same problem I am having with WPA2, perhaps you got lucky I don't know. When you check network settings and at the bottom it shows connection status does yours say CONNECTED?

I am able to connect via WPA2 to the pc however not to the internet for streaming music because it does not establish a link. So yes in logical terms WPA2 is working on the unit SEMI however for online streaming content connectivity is blocked locally within the WAN regardless if you add the DSM ip on the DMZ it just wont route correctly. And as I have mentioned it is not localized to my router since this has been tried with another brand and same results.

AVSFORUMS has a thread with alot of people having this issue. Awaiting a patch from dlink

I most certainly am running WPA2 AES.  The status screen does indeed show connected.  Are you also running on 5ghz, or 2.4ghz?  I'm not sure that should make a difference, but you never know. I also manually configured my IP settings.  Live365, Rhapsody, etc. all work perfecctly.

I recently switched my wireless from WEP to TKIP then AES. I never seemed to have a problem with the first two, but with AES I find I don't always get a connection when I first power on the DSM-750.

My access point is a DAP-1522 and both the access point and media player have the latest firmware versions available. I really don't want to go back to TKIP as other wireless clients in the house are much happier with AES.

I still have some experiments to try, but the initial suggestion seems to be that AES is a little less robust between this pair of devices.

I'm having the same problem
FW1.02 and tried to connect to WRT610n Linksys router using 5ghz band and wpa2
I had wireless N only selected and it wouldn't connect
After switching to mixed it connected, not sure why
Performance is poor for me though with the unit only 7 feet away.
Will not stream HD at all, even 720p mkv's
I had to hook up a network bridge running in 5ghz.  Now I can stream everything but 1080p mkv's

My experience has been that is I have anything running on 2.4 ghz (such as a PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, or even a phone that is in the area), it tends to react very slow and sometimes "loses" its memory. It will forget the wireless router information and you will have to go through setting up your wireless connection again (and even then it may not connect if their is a wireless device that runs on 2.4 ghz. I am using a 5 ghz connection that is just for my 750.

Ok, I did get the DSM-750 to work with wpa2 and here is how I did it:

Go to network settings and hit configure
While it's searching for wireless access points hit select for manual setup
Enter the SSID manually
Select wpa2 AES security
Hit next and enter password and then go through the process of ip, subnet, gateway and dns
Mine would then connect.
For some reason if I let it find the ssid automatically and then entered the password it wouldn't connect
Hope this helps
