Formatting second drive hangs for eternity

Hi I setup my  DNS-320 with one disk, formatted it, and copied data over to it. Now I got another 2TB disk and after having inserted in and started going through the steps for formatting.
The system indicated the 'initializer bar' as having run/completed successfully, and then when the bar for formatting appears, it just hangs over there ... does nothing. I even left it overnight for and nothing changed by the morning (6 hours later) when I checked again. The bar was still not showing any progress.

Has anyone seen this before? should I have had both drives together in the first place and formatted them together?

This second drive is a Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB, and it's formatted to Fat32

I tried searching through the forum if anyone else had run into a similar issue but was not really able to find something.

I had a similar issue, I fixed it by removing the first HDD and formated the second drive while it was alone in the NAS.
That worked great for me since I'm using "standard volumes", but wouldn't be of any help for those trying to make a RAID volume.

I've tried formatting one drive, rebooting and then formatting the other, it didn't work, then i tried to format both drives at once but that didn't work either.

P.S. my drives are a 1TB WD Green and a 2TB WD Green, I've even tried with 2x2TB WD green drives, had the same problem.
The firmware version is 2.00, maybe the update fixes that but i don't dare to install it as there's no way to go back to the old version and users reported a series of problems with the 2.02 version.

Hi,
I second the recommendation by albuemil as I had a similar problem and used this fix.  I think I also recall having to completely remove the partition and formatting via a Windows Disk Manager and placing the drive back in the 320 first.  Anyway, if the first fix does not get it done do try deleting the volume in a Windows Machine.  Good luck.

I had the exact same problem just now (2.02) and albuemil's recommendation worked perfectly for me...
Looks like another item for the firmware wishlist :-\

After you had both drives formatted are you able to then set up a RAID1 configuration?

Question to Albumeil, after you removed the first drive, added the second one, and formatted it, did you add the first one back and use it? did it need to be formatted again?
were you able to use both drives together (standard format)?

After formating both drives individually i was able to use them both together in the NAS without problems.
I mean that i formated the 1st HDD alone, formated the 2nd HDD alone then put the 1st and 2nd in the drive and i can use them without problems.

I only tried with Standard format, didn't try to convert them to RAID1 as i don't need that, so i don't know if the 2 drives formated individually could be used to make a RAID1 configuration. Theoretically it should work, but ... theory and practice are 2 different things ;)
