So I finally got the replacement yesterday.  I didn't have time to set it up until today and OMG!!!  It's doing the same thing.  This one came with 2.05NA firmware and I left it that way.  I'll be calling them tomorrow to see what they can do.  This is insane.

Actually, this one is worse than the one it replaced.  I can't even access my DIR-655 UI now either.  With the prevous one when this happened, I can at least still access the 655 and DAP-1522.  Just makes no sense.

I would make sure you're using 2.06 on the replacement 825 and strongly suggest using static IP addresses instead of DHCP addresses.  First get the 825 working alone then start adding the 655 and the DAP. See the Dlink manual for how to connect to another router.

The other thing to try would be using the 655 as the main router and the 825 as a WAP and switch.  That setup is working for me now.

Thanks for the suggestions but I've done all of that already with the same results.  The only thing I didn't want to do is update to 2.06NA just yet since the original one had that and still did the same thing.  I'm going to give them a call to see what they can come up with.

I narrowed it down to basically the most basic set up, i.e., reset the router to factory and set it up to connect to the internet and only connected my primary PC to it and it still does the same thing.  Makes no sense at all.

I do wonder if I reverse them, as you suggest, and make the 655 the primary and the 825 as the switch, if the same thing will happen.  May be worth trying after talking to tech support.  What's mind boggling is the router works perfectly fine but I have to unplug it to reboot it so the UI becomes accessible again.

I might venture to say something else is going on thats not on the DLink or related to the DLink.

I would take the router(s) to say a friend, neighbor or families house with internet and a different PC and see if the problem follows. Try a different PC.

Well, I have five different computers so I don't see the need to take it to a friend's.  I did talk to a higher level support person and she had me chante the Internet MTU setting from the defautl of 1492 to 1484 and the lower teir rep had me go ahead and upgrade to 2.06NA.

One thing that did occur to me, while talking to the upper tier support rep, is that the D-Link gadget may also be contributing to this.  For now, since the changes made and also I've removed the D-Link gadget, it's been about 3 hours and the router login page is accessible.  That doesn't mean we've solved anything since at least once it was accessible after around 8 hours of up time.  So we'll see.

I have a feeling it's that stupid desktop gadget that's the problem.  I'm wondring if you wouldn't mind finding the gadget online and grabbing it and see if it does the same thing for you?  If by tomorrow the set up page is still accessible, then I'm putting the gadget back on only one computer to see if it affects it just to verify it.  But having someone else run into this with that gadget enabled would really be helpful.

It's the gadget listed here: http://www.dlink.com/widgets.

I don't have the Yahoo! Widget but the Gadget that Microsoft used to have available which is no longer available.  However, if you can't get the gadget, let me know and I can get it to you somehow.  I'll see if I can attach it to a PM and send it to you directly.

Well, my latest report is that I can still access the 825 login page since D-Link support and I made the changes.  The significant one is me removing the D-Link Network Monitor.  BTW, you can just click the X in the gadget to close it and remove it from the Desktop.  It'll still be available in the Gadget's list.  I know Microsoft, recently, has dropped/changed support for gadgets as the myriad of gadgets are no longer available.

Note that I had no issues with the DIR-655 while running the gadget on 3 different computers.  I'll report back tomorrow and see if the page is still accessible.  If it is, then I'll reenable the gadget on one computer and see if after that the 825 setup UI becomes inaccessible after some time.

BTW, you can use URL Snooper if you want to see what request commands are sent to the router.  You can copy them and post them in a browser so you can see the XML results.  I'm wondering if getting so many of these requests is not "compatible" with the 825 or is introducing a bug that D-Link may not even be aware of right now.  In my case, whatever the "ping" frequency of these commands is, it was multiplied by 3 since I was running the gadget on 3 computers.

Latest update is that I'm still able to access the router setup.  I'll keep things the way they are through the evening, so about another 8 hours or so.  This would be the longest stretch by far where the 825 has been up and the UI available.  I think after that would be a good time to reenable the gadget to confirm it's the source of the problem and then call D-Link by later on Monday to give them the results.

Like I said, I NEVER had any issues with the 655 so you shouldn't see any issues other than the occassional "bad IP" or password but those, for me, NEVER impacted the router's UI accessibility.  I've had the 655 for almost 3 years now and never had any issues so I wouldn't waste your time on the 655.  You should run it using the IP for your 825 since that's where the possible problem may be.

I'm still able to access the UI on the 825 as of right now.

Yeah, it's definitely the Gadget.  I started it about 3 hours ago and now the UI is busted again.  I'd love to know if anyone else can confirm this please.  I ran this on the PC that's directly connected to the router.

I will call D-Link and let them know.
