I've got a DIR-825 RevB Firmware V2.06NA on a static IP wan connection routing to a SBS2008 server and 10PC's. The server is serving mail, web, and files. Router has virtual servers setup for http, https, smtp, imap, imapssl, smtpssl, pptp, remote desktop, and a few others.

Everything works fine, but the routers https forwarding stops running periodically about half an hour after reboot. The server's working fine, but it doesn't see the https request, it looks like the router is trying to serve the 443 request itself. After a router reboot everything is back to normal.

I've replaced the router with another dir-825 and it has the same issue. Is this a known problem?

Might be how your routing the 825 with your other router. Having 2 routers on line can be an issue. Have you tried using the DMZ for the 2008 server?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall if you have this option.

There's only one router, the DIR825, and it seems to forgot how to port forward some services intermittently. Reboot fixes it, for a while. It's very strange

DSL - static IP. Is the 825 handling the PPPoE or static DSL account or is it set to DHCP from the ISP Modem?

Motorola Router <Router or stand alone modem? If you say the modem is stand alone then router? You sure? Just need to verify what your using so we know and have a better idea of your ISP system.

For 3 years, what FW version had you been using? I presume you might have updated FW recently? If so have you read the FW update sticky? Its possible that turning off the DHCP server on the 825, that this also renders part of it's designed routing functions. When people do this on these routers, they turn them into APs and no longer use any of the router functions due to the fact that the WAN port is not used anymore on the router and only connected via LAN port. It's possible that some of the router functions are tied to the DHCP server and other features like VS. Turning it off might have not exhibited this problem until you might have changed something recently.

Are you using the 825 for WiFi access as well? If so, I would recommend that if your using a decicated SW server platform and you are no longer using the 825 for DHCP server features and it's not handling the ISP connection, I would turn it into a AP and use the modem and your server for your internet services. Or use the DMZ on the router to put your server PC in and let the 825 pass ALL traffic to the server PC with out any 825 interference. Doing this you will use the LAN port on the 825 to connect to the main host router or modem. The WAN port will not be use anymore.

There's only one router, the DIR825, and it seems to forgot how to port forward some services intermittently. This is probably an issue with how the 825 is configured and being set up and used. Maybe this sort of set up may not work. I presume that you know these are home routers and are mainly used to service DHCP clients and services as the main host router. Using this router in your set up might be unsupported on some way and it would need some troubleshooting to see if using the 825 for this is viable. Standard recommended uses are ISP modem, stand alone(no built in router) or built in router modem, either bridged to let the 825 handle the PPPoE connect or put the 825 into the DMZ on the router modem if the modem can not be bridge. After that, devices are connected to the 825 via wired or wireless. Any other routers or devices after that can use the DMZ on the 825 as well if needed.

I do have VS and QoS set on on my 825 for FileZilla access and its working, I'm only using v2.05 FW and using the standard router setup with my cable modem. I have a 24pt switch coming off the back of the 825 and everything connected to that.
