HDD rebuild is done
« on: January 25, 2012, 05:54:55 AM »

Hi,

Today I got an e-mail notification from my DNS-323 saying; "Volume_1 HDD rebuild is done".

This e-mail comes straight out of the blue for me, as I never got any signs of a disk failure in the first place...

Logging in and going to tools --> disk tools and running diagnostic fails;
Going to status --> device info shows the following hard drive info;

Total Drive(s):    2
Volume Name:    Volume_1
Volume Type:    Standard
Total Hard Drive Capacity:    -1 MB
Used Space:    0 KB
Unused Space:    0 MB

and the following physical disk info

Slot   Vendor   Model   Serial         Number   Size
Right   Seagate   ST31000528AS   9VP4M2RH   1000 G
Left   Seagate   ST31000528AS   9VP4FSPR   1000 G

When I try to reach my data via computer it is all there!

I'm using Firmware 1.08.

What can / should I do?

Cheers,

Paul

The first thing you do, if you haven't already, is backup your data while you can, then you can start looking at possible problems.

If you were setup as raid 1 then something has happened to destroy that setup so the best thing you can do, after backing everything up is to reformat and restore the data.

The other thing is that there may be bad sectors on one of the drives that have been remapped by the drive firmware that triggered the e-mail and the strange log entries.

You could also try the paper clip reset to defaults to see if that clears the problem.
