Blinking HD LED and no disk shown. Please help!
« on: March 10, 2009, 09:20:27 PM »

All,

Seems there are some incredibly talented folks in this forum so I come pleading for a bit of help.

I've just purchased the DNS323 which seems like a great device, along with the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360. Yes, I've just discovered the drive has "issues" with the DNS device, but I am not getting the types of issues that others are experiencing in that thread.

Here is what happened:

I put the drive in, powered on, updated the FW to 1.6, formatted to "Standard" as there is only 1 drive and then moved all my data so it. So far, it's magic.

Unfortunately, I accidentally unplugged the unit before powering it down and now when I start up again, I can get to the web page and login, but the HD LED is blinking blue like crazy, though no activity is actually occurring (checked by pulling network cable). The "Status" page shows HD 1 but doesn't show the volume or anything, and trying to access the drive via Vista remotely shows an error.  Also, going to the downloads>BT produces an error about lack of HD.

I am now desperate as I had moved my data and need to keep it safe. Is there an FSCK happening or something? I've let the drive go for 24h and still no stop to this.

Please let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do.

Desperately awaiting your replies.

Danny

Have you tried going into the tools section and clicking the restart/reboot button? This will cause the unit to do a soft reboot.

Yes, I've tried that. It always comes back with the blinking light as soon as it boots up. I've also tried shutting down, taking the drive out, reseating it, and then starting. Same result.

Any idea what's occurring when there is this blinking LED? I am honestly concerned about my data at this point.

Additional info from Status page. As you can see, no physical drives are listed.

why don't you try to do a firmware downgrade to 1.05 or 1.04 ?

I could; I just thought someone may have run into this issue prior to me and knows the exact solution...

I'm sure your data is fine its just a matter of getting the DNS-323 to recognize your drives. If you have data on it that you are concerned about data recovery is always an option, mounting the drives into a Linux based PC, or Windows utility for Ext2 file system if you need the data of the drives now. We are currently working on firmware to resolve this issue I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for your reply. So is this definitely a symptom related to the Hitachi HD model that was mentioned in the other thread? The symptoms seem different...

Also, any approximate ETA on the firmware?
