I notice that I have TX Packets Dropped only under the wireless section.

This occurs when the wireless network is not in use also.

I have tried many different channels, almost all of them.

Im using wpa2-tkip+aes, mixed g and n network, auto 20/40, wps disabled

I understand about wireless interference also.

wireless devices dont seem to have any issues though, not dropping from network.

I usually get 4000 wireless TX drops a day. LAN and WAN show No TX drops

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Try single mode G?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES only.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partiton and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

I have dir-615 Hardware rev E3 Firm 5.10

Using wpa2 personnal, tkip+aes, using channel 5 right now

Lan and Wan has no dropped packets under traffic Stats

Using Cable modem, modem has no router built in, CM100 by linksys

No other routers

No cordless phones

There are about 5 other wireless routers around neighborhood I see.

Latest update per dir-615 Traffic Stats is wireless showing
Sent :  3643516
Received :  1953030
TX Packets Dropped :  1655

Turn off Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partiton and Extra Wireless Protection

All wireless devices in house turned off for testing and still showing wireless TX Packets dropping though

Clicking on refresh stats and can see the number increase

I have tried wpa only also and different channels also but still get dropped wireless

I have tried other configs also but always get some wireless tx dropping

I turned Short GI back on and get less drops on wireless TX

Those other wifi routers could be cause some interferences.

Thats what Im thinking also. Bc I have all wireless devices turned off in house and still get wireless drops. Grrrr

I have tried all wireless channels to. Well the good news is that my wireless devices in house keep a steady connection.

Keep us posted. Use different channels that the other routers are not using.

I have tried every combo and no luck to stop it completely.

I enable drop packets and debug info in log options and that reports nothing.

So I guess network is solid just picking up interference from outside sources.

I did get it to stop by turning on my wireless on my smartphone and the router shows one connected device.

Strange that I get wireless TX packets drops with all wireless devices off but turn one on wireless device and it stops.

Hmmm strange, could this be a firmware issue?

I turned off my smartphone and rebooted router and show no wireless devices attached to network and wireless TX packets start dropping again.

After one minute up and running after reboot router showing 400+ dropped wireless packets with no devices connected.

Connect one wireless device and wireless packets stop dropping. Cleared stats and showing no drops now with one wireless device connected.

Could be, never seen this kind of behavior before. I would contact DLink support, see if you can get a hold of someone up at Level 2 maybe. Sure is odd that your getting packet drops with no devices connected. Very interesting.

OK called Dlink tech support.

They said:

With no wireless connections connected the wireless router is broadcasting and searching for a connection and cant find one so those wireless packets drop and get reported in the traffic stats section under wireless. Then when you connect a device, the router can see a connection and can communicate with it and stop dropping TX packets. Thus handshaking is complete and continue a steady handshake, so no more drop packets.

Thats my version of what they told me, I added the handshaking part to give a complete understanding to everyone.


Basically it normal behavior per dlink and there router device. Like mentioned Surfing is not a issue and products works fine. Wireless devices on network work and connect fine as well.

I just wanted to know why wireless TX drops packets per Stats page in router.

Anyone care to try to duplicate this with there dlink router with no wireless devices attached?

I would imagine this would be true for other wireless models as well.

Good information man. Thanks for sharing. I might try on mine as I have several models and see. Theres usually devices connected so I'll have to turn them off and see.
