Turn off ALL devices, disconnect all wired devices and test with only one wired PC, does the router reboot?
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
Can you answer the following so we can get a better idea of your system and settings please:
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out. Need to know how many other routers are near by if any.
Turn off Short GI, WPS and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.
Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using
teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.
Can review this as well:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=45096.0I want to agree. The DIR-827 router is VERY UNSTABLE running HW A1 and Firmware 1.01.
My DIR-827 reboots itself about every 15 minutes. I don't have anything special in my config and have tried the remedies suggested on this forum.
If there is any pattern (and I could be fooled by randomness) the instability seems to get worse when I let all my iPod and iPad devices go online at the same time. Added up I probably have 5-6 iDevices at any given time (WiFi) plus three computers (hard line/WiFi mix) and maybe a cell phone or two (WiFi).
When I get down to a bare minimum number of devices (by putting iStuff in "airplane mode") I seem to have better stability. My worst stability is when I'm using Windows VPN client from a PC. It doesn't matter if my PC is WiFI or hardline connected to the router . During VPN sessions the router reboots itself relentlessly. The router clearly hates the Windows VPN client. I think this is the best case for reproducing the bug at the factory.
By "reboot" I mean a full 60-90 second cycle with the same light sequences as a cold boot. Once it cycles back up I'm good for another 15 minutes or so.
I have tried going 100% dark by cycling everything in the house that has an IP address or an Ethernet port to a full power-off state - all at the same time. No success.
The DIR-827 has fantastic range but it's a POS in terms of stability.
Darned thing just rebooted twice while I was typing this.... Now I've got to wait 90 seconds to hit [Post].
Firmware update??? Please???
