Dir 655 won't connect to charter cisco dpc3010 cable modem.
« on: February 08, 2012, 05:10:18 PM »

Help, my dir-655 rev. A2 router won't connect to the new modem that Charter sent me. I had  the scientific Atlanta model dpc2100r2 modem but Charter called and said that they have upgraded my speed for free from 18/2 to 30/4 and that I needed a new docsis 3.0 compatable modem in order to take full advantage of the speed upgrade. I received the modem and connected an activated it according to their instructions. The modem works fine when connected to the PC only but as soon as  I connected to the dir 655 the link light went out on the modem and I lost my internet connection. The first step I took was to clone the mac address in Wan section of router. It still did not work. The next step was to turn the modem off, the router off and shutdown the PC. I waited until this morning to reconnect everything. I started the PC, then I started the modem and waited for it to stabilize and finally I restarted the router. I still had no connection. The status page of the router said that the cable was disconnected and that network was disconnected. There was no info to release so I clicked the renew button but nothing happened. What am I doing wrong. Someone please help!

Swap out cables between the modem and router.
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
Also did you factory reset the 655 router after you powered on the modem, as it might have had previous settings from the old modem. It should automatically connect to a new modem however a reset of the 655 might be needed to be sure.

Thank you for your help swapping out the cable from the previous modem to the one that came with the new modem worked. My Isp is Charter Cable. They wouldn't provide any help and only offered to reactivate the old modem but told me it would be slow and may not support the increase in speed because the old one is docsis 2.0 and new modem is docsis 3.0.

Guess simple troubleshooting helps. They should have mentioned this. I do recommend getting your own modem if your paying rental fee for the ISP modem and recommend using CAT6 cables for ALL wired devices.

Hope it works well for you.
