Can not connect to internet
« on: December 28, 2011, 07:56:39 PM »

I Installed a new DIR-645 and following the installation wizard. The status of the installation was successful, but I can not connect to the Internet. The configurations is:
ISP Service: Cable
ISP Modem: built in router
ISP Modem model: Motorola SBG900 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway

The ISP modem has:
Enable DHCP client
Enable NAT

With the new DIR-645, I am replacing a DLINK DI-624 wireless router. With the DI-624, internet access via SBG900 was ok
Could help solve this issue? Thanks in advance

try to disable NAT on the ISP modem.
try putting the 645 router in the ISP modems DMZ.

Having 2 routers on line will cause problems

Hi there and I am having a very unique issue, everytime I power down the DIR 645 the router comes up BUT the Wireless light takes forever to come up and I end up reseting the router, the last one I had I reset it one too many and the wireless did not work at all and had to return it ...

Now with the new one I am having the same issue, where we had a sudden power outage, and when it came back on the router powered up with the wireless is not working ... any ideas ?

Thanks

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.

Thanks for the long email and here are the answers

ISP - Cable, standalone Cisco modem - bridged
DNS Setting are as per your indications
Wireless - mixed G and N - Security WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES and connected are 3 laptops and 1 wireless printer.

The thing is can a couple of routers around the building cause the wireless indicator to not come up? as we are in a building with a few routers in space.

The thing is the wireless indicator does not comeup so it does not even reach the end point ?

But was working 20 minutes ago ...

Thanks

Need to use the InSSIDer application and see who's around you. Yes, other wifi routers near by can cause interferences. Were seeing more and more problems with WiFi stability in high congested WiFi areas.

See what other WiFi is near by and if there are any open channels not being used, change your settings from Auto channel scan to an open channel. Try ch 1 first if it's not being used.

Just wanted to indicate that I check the wifi spots around me and there where a few ... tried the all the channels and finally left it on AUTO.

Router still sends out the ISP would send out the ISP IPs when connected on Cable but the Wireless just would not kick in ...

Called DLink and they tried to reset it ? did not Reset for the life of the Router very strange, they tried a couple of ping tests and restarts ... and nothing worked out ... Got an RMA as they declared the device defective, but on second chance realised that I had still 24hrs to return it ... Ran to BestBuy and Returned it ...

Not sure why this happened so I am going to try something else and see what comes out of this ... Thanks for the time guys but I am not sure how reliable the DIR 645 is cause this is my 3rd Dlink Router and they all worked like a charm not sure what happened to this one...  :)

Thanks for your time, appreciate that !

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer. If your interested, safe and secure.
