DIR-825 and media server NAS -----SOLVED
« on: February 09, 2012, 01:34:17 PM »

I am using a DIR-825 and have 2 NAS drives. One mybook world edition and a Netgear Stora. My media clients(wd live tv and ps3) are not seeing them very well. It's a bit sporadic. I tried everything and finally got a linksys e4200 and it allowed the 2 devices to be discovered. So it is apparently a router issue. The ps3 and we tv live find them right away and never loses them. The DLink takes forever to get them to show up if at all. I imagine there are settings that need to be changed. Any ideas out there? I don't want to keep this linksys if it is not needed. Is the DLink not DNLA compliant?

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I am running B1 and 2.06NA.

Both the PS3 and WD TV Live are connected through a wireless bridge. One bridge is the linksys WET610N and the other is a hacked E2000 running tomato firmware. I changed the settings that I could for that my model of router and still no luck. The only thing I did not change was single gmode. I would really need to have N at 5ghz as I am streaming HD video. I am using auto on TPIK and AES.

I imagine it can't be the bridges as it works fine when I use the Linksys as the main router instead of the DLink.

Try single mode G or mixed G and N on the 2.4Ghz radio.

Actually, I take that back. After rebooting everything it seems to be working great. Everything is appearing on both the PS3 and the WD Live TV. I saved the config and should be good to go. Thanks for your help Furry.
