I wanted to give open access to one of the folder stored on DNS 323

I want to give access without username and password to one of the folder.

Select the folder and give it a guest account.

There is nothing like "Guest" account in the list.
Firmware is 1.09
When I go to "Network Access Settings" i don't see any option to set as Guest Account.

Also i dont see any option to create Guest account under USERS/GROUP tab.

Go to 'users/groups' in the 'advanced' menu. then in the 'users and group creation' section 'user name' give a name of guest (or anything you like), since you don't want a password leave that blank then click on 'add'.

You should see a new user in the list of users in 'group settings'.

Then go to 'network access' and select the user in 'network access settings', browse to the folder you want to give access to, set the permissions and click on 'save settings'.

Guest account added and should be ready to go.

It does not allow me to create user without passwords.
It keep saying "Please Enter password"

You will have to create the account with a password like "guestpw".  Before creating the Network Access Setting, you may want to create the folder in advance and when you create the account settings, make sure you set the read/write settings the way you want it.  See it that helps.

You could install FFP and manually configure Samba to do what you want/need.

Based on a recent topic on this list, it would be very helpful to those who may be able to help you if you would provide more information about your environment(small office or home) and the types of machines(OS X or Windows).  It would also be helpful to know your experience level and how quickly you want to make this happen.

Okay,
Environment is Small office. Having 7-10 users.

OS is Windows XP or Windows 7.

I am advance user.

Also creating password as something like "guestpw" will ask to enter username and password everytime on client side.
I want client to able to access the folder directly by just typing sharing path and without entering user name and password.

One last question, is this client on of the office network or someone that arrives from time to time, e.g. someone from the outside coming in and connecting?

While we don't use windows here we do have a windows computer, XP, that is used to help with clients problems.  On that computer we can connect to the DNS-320 shared folders through 'network places' without having to enter anything - just open the folder and there are the files.

If it is the case of a non office person I would be a little concerned about allowing access without paswords.

On our home network I have been able the automatically connect a Win 7 and an OSX machine to our DNS-323 when the the machines start.  The DNS-323 is always powered on and sleeping.  For the Win 7 machine a mapped drive N: to point to a folder on the 323.

Because I come from an environment where every user has a unique login, password and "home" directory, this setup did not seem unreasonable.  I do not know if you could map a drive on each of the 10 machines to point to the same folder on the NAS and use the user name/password of guest/guestpw.  Personally, if these users were able to write to the folder, I would want to be able to track who created each file.  I would also be concerned about someone deleting the wrong file.   

Try creating the common folder on the 323 and setup an account/password on the 323.  If you can map a drive to this network folder on two machines, you may be able to do what you want.

yes, all users are from same office.

DNS-323 IP address is 192.168.2.53

so when i type in windows client like this:  \\192.168.2.50  it asks me for the username.
I think I remember that older firmwares like 1.02 were allowing guests without username and password. But this firmware 1.09 not allows.

Mapping drive on each client is hard since lot of machines are there. Also Some of the applications on client PC wants directly access by entering UNC path like \\192.168.2.50\share

On our 25 machines here I have various folders mapped to drive letters.  This mapping is applied as the OS boots and we  have never had a problem with it.

Unfortunately, the only time we use windows is to help the odd client and then access to the NAS is through Network Places which, again, works for what we need to do.

As I've exhausted my knowledge of windows - last used as OS in the days of win 3.1 I'll have to leave helping you to those that know more about windows networking than I, sorry.
