DLink 655 and Kindle Fire Problem.
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:32:51 AM »

Please note, I am a complete Dummy.

Have had this Router for some time with basically no problems.
My wife purchased a Kindle Fire.  Got our son, who has one to set it up.
Everything works great, except after accessing a site, say Target, which it does quick,  when my wife clicks on a picture to get more details on an item, the little circle just keeps rotating, never downloads/opens and eventually times out.
This happens on all sites she tries.
We took the Fire to several locations, my sons house, several public sites, and downloads perfectly.
He also has a Fire which works perfectly ,  so we brought it to our house, and it had exact same problem.
Contacted Dlink. And the person instructed me to change several settings,  which did not help. Also contacted Amazon and the person implied a possible Silk Browser/Cloud problem, checked settingds on the Fire,  but no help.  He did say to wait a little while as they were constanly upgraded.

So, any thoughts on how a dummy like me can fix this problem, or do I just go out and buy another brand router to try.

Ronald.

Do other devices work while connected to the router? Wired and wireless?

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only for Kindle.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Everything  else works perfectly, both wireless and hard wired into router.
Also anyone visiting with any devices after I give password everything works perfectly.
Just now, went t o Amazon store. Searched for Routers, clicked on a Picture and open instantly. Also “USA today”, can access and open and read articles instantly.

As noted, I am a dummy with this.
Do I have to load the setup Disc, never did, to access  G, and Mixed G and N, and Security Modes etc?

Much appreciated your help.

Configure the router from the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.

If all other devices are working and the Kindle seems to be the only one, possible that the Kindle is the issue.
I would try setting up Mixed G and N and trying security mode TPIK only and see if it helps along with some of the other suggestions. Keep us posted.

Settings are:
802.11 Mode : Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g and 802.11b
WPA Only - Personal

Do I go into SETTINGS to change to  TPIK?

Whats TPIK?

Use the drop down menu for the MODE and select Mixed G and N. Select G mode only if you know you don't have any N supported devices.

On the same page there is a Security option. It should already be on if you have configured it. If not, enable the WPA personal option. A new section will appear,WPA Mode : Cipher Type :
Try WPA only and TPIK for the Cipher type, Then try Auto WPA and WPA 2 and TPIK only.

TPIK is a secure key cipher type. AES is the other key.

Apparently I have 1N, and 1G on system.

"Use the drop down menu for the MODE"    How do I access this? Through SETUP?  I am really afraid to touch anything.
Looking at a Manual I down loaded, There is no T??  Only various WPAs.

After your reply, will get my son to come over in next few days to try it.

As noted BF, This Kindle works perfectly every else except our home, and my sons works perfectly every  except our home.
My wife really likes the Fire, she is reading Books, getting weather, and News.
But as noted once on a site she cannot open a file/link,  within that sight.
She can go on Yahoo Mail, and see Messages list==no problem, BUT cannot open a message.

Thanks for help, much appreciated.

Yes WiFi configuration is under Setup/Wireless/Manual wireless using the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.
