DNS-323 left bay failed?
« on: July 12, 2012, 10:26:36 PM »

I'm running three DNS-323s (all RAID1 config). One of them recently start acting up by showing pink led on left bay. I shut down DNS-323 and boot it up. After boot up, the left bay drive was no longer available and only right drive was found. I back up the data to external drive and started expermenting with it.

1. First swapped drives from left to right. No luck. Left drive was still not recognized.
2. Upgraded firmware from 1.07 to 1.10. Left drive was still not recognized.
3. Upgraded drives from 1 TB Seagate to 2 TB Western Digital. Left drive is still not recognized.

Any other ideas to try before claiming DNS-323 to be broken?

You can try reseating the "interface card" - the drive plugs into a short interface card which in turn plugs into the PCB.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.
