Author Topic: New DAP-1522 Rev B1 reports firmware 1.21 from 2009--Won't accept new firmware  (Read 12493 times)

I just purchased a DAP-1522. The sticker on the bottom says it's a version B1, with firmware 2.0.

In the web interface, it says: "Firmware Version :   1.21 , Fri 26 Jun 2009"

I downloaded the 2.01 firmware from the D-Link site and when I try to upload it, it says it's not an image file.

Anyone else seeing this?

First off is the DAP working out of the box? Theres no real need to update FW unless you using Guest Zone.

Did you unpack the .bin file from the .zip file you downloaded?

I would use the DAP as is unless you are exhibiting problems.

Yes, I unzipped the bin file. It seems to be working fine.

It's a little concerning to me that the firmware won't flash, and the firmware version reported in software doesn't match what's on the product sticker.  In fact, the firmware reported appears to be from an older hardware revision which shouldn't even be compatible.

Seems that Rev A FW is install and even though the stick says Rev B.

What region are you located and where did you get this unit from?

Possible this is a refurb or used?
Still have the box? What's the Rev say on the box label?

I purchased it at Frys Electronice in Fountain Valley--which I believe also happens to be where D-Link corporate is located. It was a reduced price item with a sticker similar to an open box item.

The Box sticker matches the sticker on the unit--rev b1 and firmware 2.0. The odd thing is that the power light is orange on this unit--and it blinks. The box photo shows a blue power light.

This may be a crazy, but I'm wondering if the case is from a new model, and the electronics board inside is from an old unit?!  The other odd thing is that the wireless light is on, even though I'm using it in bridge mode. I noticed that the older model had an orange light, and lights for each of the ethernet ports. If I unplug one ethernet cable at a time(I'm using all four ports), the wireless light turns off, and then the bridge light. I'm really thinking there's an old board in a new case, and the lights are corresponding to the old case, even though a few of the cutouts line up with the new case.

It's like

Is the ISP Modem WAN port speed support Gb speeds? If not, maybe why Globe blink amber and not blue. I believe Blue signifies GB speed on the WAN port.

This could have been a used item that they reboxed and resealed.

Well not sure if you can exchange this at frys for another or not. I would, if not, I would RMA it and. I presume DLink will honer the warranty. You'll just have to wait for it.

If your curious if FW updates work, Try the REV A build and see. Would be interesting to know if Rev FW loads or not.

Keep us posted.

So this is pretty interesting. It indeed looks like I have an old board in a new case/box. That's pretty shady! Someone either purchased a new one from Fry's and swapped out the board, or D-Link screwed up in some bizarre way.

Here's a little Photoshop comparison of the lights:

With out prior experience with this unit I would say that the top unit is a Rev A and the bottom might be a Rev B.

Try the FW update for Rev A...

The simpler looking one, on top, is actually the newer, Rev B.

Sure enough, per your suggestion, the 1.4 firmware for the non Rev B model flashes just fine.

I'm going to return the unit and get one that's an actual Rev B where the lights report correctly.

Agreed, I just reviewed the manuals for each. Let us know how it turns out with the replacement.

Just got a new 1522 from Newegg and it's the correct hardware revision in the correct enclosure.

The lights work correctly, and the network connectors on the back have a black plastic housing, not the metal ones from the older model.

Pretty crazy I got an old board in a new case/box. Mystery solved and all is well.
