New DAP-1522 in bridge mode
« on: March 20, 2012, 09:02:15 PM »

Hello everyone,

I just bought a DAP-1522 and intend to run it in bridge mode with a SMCD3GNV router from comcast.
I hooked it up to my PC and was able to configure the wireless. The DAP-1522 confirms that it is connected to the router, and the router confirms it sees the DAP-1522, which has been assigned the 10.0.0.5 IP address.

Now, I tried to use it to hook up my xbox 360.
1. When the xbox is connected directly to the router, the router says it sees the device, has assigned 10.0.0.7 to it, and the xbox can connect to the internet.
2. When the xbox is connected to the bridge, the router says it sees the xbox, and has assigned 10.0.0.7 to it, but the xbox can't connect to the internet. From the point of view of the router though, everything looks fine.

I also tested it with my PC.
1. When the PC is hooked directly to the router, everything works fine, the router says everything looks good as well.
2. When the PC is hooked to the DAP, it gets the same IP address, and Windows 7 even says "Internet access", but it can't connect to the internet.

Does anyone have an idea what setting could be causing everything to look identical whether I am hooked directly to the router or through the DAP-1522, but the internet just doesn't work?
The switch on the DAP-1522 is set to bridge mode, and I have MAC cloning set to auto.

Check the DAP and make sure the following is correct?
Subnet Mask : <Should be the same as the host ruoter.
Default Gateway : < Should be the IP address of the host router.

Might try AP mode for a test to see if that will work as well.

Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, default gateway is 10.0.0.1, both are correct.

Also, both the xbox and PC get their subnet mask and default gateway set to these values whether hooked up directly or through the dap-1522. They also get their dns servers set to the correct values whether they are hooked up directly or through the bridge. Also, when the xbox is hooked up to the bridge and the PC is wired directly to the router, the PC can still access the bridge Web utility, and the xbox and PC can still see each other.
So, everything is working exactly as expected, except for the internet access.

I can try AP mode when I get back home today, though I'll have to use my ps3 and TV for that testing, since my xbox and PC are wired only. Any other ideas what could be wrong before I try that?

Thanks.

Hmm so everything seems to be working accept for the Internet is not getting from the host router thru the DAP. I can't think of anything of the top of my head right now accept that you need to confirm AP mode works, if not, possible problem with this unit. I'm leaning on something on the configuration isn't right however.

Works great in AP mode. Once again, from the point of view of IP addresses and subnet masks, everything looks identical to both bridge mode and a direct wireless connection to the router. But the PS3 can access the internet through the AP.

Anything else you were thinking of checking while in AP mode, or was this just to test whether this DAP-1522 is busted?

Wanted to see if AP worked vs Bridged. Possible something in the configuration isn't right with Bridged. I recommend testing AP mode out for a while and see how well it works for you. Is there a requirement to use bridged, that the hosting device needs to be in a bridged mode as well? I presume it wouldn't.  :-\

The reason I bought the bridge is that I am moving my pc to a different room, and the cable modem/router is going with it. Meanwhile, I have 2 items in my family room that are wired only. The bridge will keep those hooked up.

Hopeully, switching modes and redoing the setup will fix whatever the issue is. Otherwise, time to return the bridge.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Right, I am bridging wired network 1 (my pc and cable modem) to wired network 2 (my xbox and receiver) by connecting the router and the DAP-1522 wirelessy.
So far, it looks like ressetting the router back to bridge mode after being in AP mode may have cleared up the issue... I am posting this message from my PC, through the bridge. Hooray for settings magically fixing themselves!

Nevermind. When I unplugged it and moved it over to my xbox, and then plugged it back in, it no longer worked  for my pc or xbox. So I unplugged it again, turned it to ap mode, plugged it in, unplugged it yet again, turned it back to bridge mode, and plugged it back in. My pc could access the internet again, but my xbox still couldn't.

So it's getting returned =(
