LOGIN failure: Unknown username or bad password
« on: April 05, 2012, 12:25:10 PM »

Hi There,

Cant open drive anymore after defining username

I went under Management/Account Management/User-Groups and defined two users one with read only and one with full access. AS soon as I hit apply, I was not able to open the drive from My Computer/V: (I have mapped it to V:) The reason I wanted to have a username and password was that so no one could accidentally delete an entire folder that could be all my pictures for example.

So I went on and removed both username and passwords and STILL I cant open the V: drive. When I try to open the V: drive it says I dont even know where I was supposed to be the username and password even if I wanted to use one.

Any assistance is highly appreciated! Thanks!!

It is very frustrating that they tell you all the details in the manual about how to create username and passwords, which is simply shown on the screen too but they dont tell you how to login after you create these usernames.

it looks like a network bug. Don't try to format or anything else your drive. Just delete and create again the network account then share in the NAS interface. Then reboot, mount again the volume. Sometimes it can happens, don't ask me why.

It seems like this is a Windows issue not DLink. When you add a username and password, you need to remove the MAPPED drive first (otherwise it will continure to have full access, how dumb is that) and once you re-map the drive and try to open it, it will ask you for a password. The only issue is that each username can only login from one spot. So I have a few devices and I have to create a username for EACH OF MY devices to get full access. I also need to create a different username and password for EACH OF MY WIFE's devices (laptop, iPad, Phone, work laptop) so with two of us in the house we will end up with 10+ similar username and passwords. Very dumb, again.

Regarding my VOLUME disappearing, there is no explanation, DLINK guy didnt know either, he reset the entire DNS box from inside the web browser interface menu (dont remember where, he remote connected to my computer with teamviewer) and the volume magically reappeared again with all files intact.
