932L: Record to NAS? What a nightmare
« on: June 13, 2011, 03:45:39 PM »

Love my 1130, records AVI files directly to my NAS no problems. Picked up the new 932L. Was aware that id have to configure it with the d-viewcam software instead of the web interface as someone was apparently too lazy to re-add the Recording tab. Anyhow...

In settings under general, location, it defaults to C:\program files (x86)\d-link\d-viewcam . I delete that and navigate to my \\qnap\camera2  share I had setup. What does the software do? It sets the path as follows:

C:\program files (x86)\d-link\d-viewcam\qnap\camera2

So.... save directly to NAS eh guys? I dont think so. Much fooling around later I found out that if I map a network drive to the NAS share first, and point to that in the software, it will work. Great! Then much to my amazement I notice that its recording as .DAT instead of .AVI . Enough messing around, time to call D-link support.

I am told by support that it always saves as .DAT, and that I have to use the software to CONVERT what I want back to .AVI . Furthermore, they couldnt figure out why I cannot specify a direct path to the NAS device and was told to wait for the next version of the d-viewcam software which will appear who knows when. And the last kicker.... it seems that the d-viewcam software has to continue to run on a PC on my network to actually process the recordings. As soon as I shut the software down it ceases to record.

Sigh.

I hope you are still checking your posts, but I am having the exact same problem you are with my dcs932l(3 of them).....I can tell the dview cam software to store the video dat files on my nas but to actually get the viewer to find them?!?!?!?  Not, I have spoke with 6 dlink techies and none of them can help me.  I was just on the phone with one guy for almost an hour and he had me hold for 20 minutes looking for answers and I finally just hung up.

Have you gotten anywhere?

This really sucks.
