Confirming files on drives?
« on: April 22, 2012, 11:19:52 PM »

At the moment, I have a Samsung disc player / DLNA media player that can normally read most files off of the DNS-323.

However, it is having trouble** with some files, plus it sees files that the file manager can't see, so I am wondering if there is a way to confirm all files on the drives.

**
- if a file is "bad", then the player should say so (sometimes this happen, sometimes not)
- if there is no driver for a file, then the player says so (this seems to work)
- some files cause an error and sends the control back to the top of the menu

The Samsung has up-to-date firmware.

But for now, I just want to confirm all files on the drives.

These are probably hidden files that the media player is seeing.  They can be seen on your PC as well if you turn on the ability to see hidden files and folders.

As for the rest - are you sure that the player can play the file type?  Do the files play on other players or PCs that you have?

Lastly, if there are problems with the files - you could run a ScanDisk on the NAS itself.  This is available with firmware 1.08 and later (I think it is 1.08 although I could be mistaken).

I wish this was that simple, but these were supposed to be video files, not hidden system files.
The player skips over non-media format files, and I think XBMC does too, when I use it.

As for the rest - are you sure that the player can play the file type?  Do the files play on other players or PCs that you have?

As I said initially, the Samsung player properly identifies files that it cannot play.

Lastly, if there are problems with the files - you could run a ScanDisk on the NAS itself.  This is available with firmware 1.08 and later (I think it is 1.08 although I could be mistaken).

Thanks! I am running a scan now.
2% and counting...

The scan ended without leaving a report up (I didn't see it end), so I presume nothing is wrong in the partitions.
