Hi,

Someone please help me. I am losing my mind here.

I just bought DNS-323 and 2x WD Caviar Green 1Tb drives. Easy Search Utility finds this setup well, but when I choose it from the list "configure" button turns to be greyed out ie. I can't press it. Only refresh and BitTorrent buttons stey active, but if I press BitTorrent button it says, please format dirives. How can I format them when I can't connect to it???

Also when I am trying to connect to the machine straight from browser (http://192.168.0.32/) it doesn't find it and just gives an error can't show the page. How should I proceed? Am I doing something wrong? Is the HW not working or what?

Thanks in advance!

After banging my head to wall for a while I realized that the problem has to be with my router. However I couldn't configure it so that it would work with NDS-323, because it is owned and configured by the company I work for and it seems to be extra secure... Anyway I tried NDS-323 at my parents place and it works like a charm.

It sounds like your work has DHCP off so the unit is defaulting to 192.168.0.32. The button is grey because you are on a different subnet than the device itself so you can not connect to the IP. When you took the box home the DNS-323 received a proper IP from your router allowing it to work.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. However my DHCP is turned on and it is giving IPs for anything else I try (Desktops, laptops, wireless devices etc.) but for some reason it doesn't give IP for DNS-323. I have no clue why it is behaving like this. Model of the router is Zyxel Prestige 660HW-61. I also tried to give DNS-323 static IP -> not working. When I connect DNS-323 with a cable to my laptop. ESU finds it and even gets its name right (I changed the name and made installation using my parents network connection), but I still can't connect it for some reason.

Does DNS-323 require some special ports to be open or something?

When I have connected DNS-323 directly to my laptop and change "Receive DHCP" to disabled and then back to enabled I get error message: "set to dhcp clien fail".

When attempting to connect directly you must set the ip address on your computer to the 192.168.0.X network. For instance if you set your computer to 192.168.0.10, you can then open a browser page to 192.168.0.32(the ip address of the NAS). If you do not set an IP to your computer when direct connecting, your computer will set an automatically assigned IP of 169.254.x.x which is not going to be able to connect to the DNS.
