Nowdays everybody is looking for "green" attitudes... even D-Link already had its "green" products.... so, to improve that thought, can we expect BitTorrent direct support from DIR-655? I would love to hook up my 64 Gb pen in my 655 and see it full of media in the end of the week

Did you ask the same question a couple of weeks ago?
Ofcourse I'm not sure, but I do not think adding this capability is an option.
First of all, these capabilities are more likely to be found at Linux-based routers. The DIR 655 runs on Ubicom so the client needs to be developed solely for the DIR (costly). Linux based routers can be installed with off the shelves packages when fitted with custom firmware (also not an option for Ubicom).

Secondly, such capabilities would seriously impact the router functions/performance (looking at CPU and RAM specs).

Thirdly, I seem to remember that 1.30/1.31 will be the final firmware.

The sad part about this, is that it means that the DIR-655 will never be 802.11N compliant. It will always be a "draft N" router, even long after the N spec has been fully published.

A linux based router sounds better everyday.

Not necessarily true. The router can be firmware upgraded to final specifications unless those specs change on the hardware end. They just won't be able to brand it as so unless they repackage it like linksys did with their wrt series, of course that was because cisco purchased linksys.

It's true, it *could* be updated. I am sure that if the DIR-655 is still an active product, they will.

However, if D-Link is no longer selling the DIR-655 in a years time and 1.31 is the last firmware update, how motivated will they be to upgrade the firmware to "1.3.2 - fully 802.11N" firmware?

Knowing my luck, only hardware version "A4 and above" will be upgradeable. Only time will tell.

The planning for final "N" is March 2010. If nothing happens. You cannot expect every manufacturer to keep their product lifecycle 'open' until they finally come up with the final draft. Knowing the WiFi Alliance and looking at the evolution of draft- "N" you should expect the final "N" specs near the end of 2010 

And perhaps they will flip out a final N firmware. Who knows...

what about DIR-685? Do you know it's specs?

BTW, surely D-Link mkt guys are planning to sell tons of 685... so why putting BitTorrent in 655?

Looking at their moves around firmware and so they are very much capable of screwing up the USP's of the DIR 655
