DNS-323 and dbox2 set top box NFS software compatible?
« on: April 06, 2009, 10:41:50 PM »

Dear All,

Is there a way to install the NFS linux software on DNS-323 and make it work with dbox2 set top boxes?

Basically this allows Dbox2 set top box owners to record TV programs onto harddisk (in 323 e.g.) and play back recorded DIVX/AVI/DVD films from it.

Could anyone help, please find the links about the NFS program, can this be installed on 313/323s?

If somebody could publish the solution for this, he/she would help I think thousands of people. And if there was a solution I think many dbox2 users would consider buying DNS-323/313s.

Thanks a lot in advance!!  :)

I hope my reply isn't regarded as too sarcastic (even though it's true and works):

Try reading this.

Thanks a lot for the link :)

I am afraid that this is not the NFS needed for dbox-es, but something else also called NFS. I have seen this page before, but I think I'll try to contact the author.

From the GNU Dbox2 homepage (http://www.tuxbox.org/index.en.html), in the documentation section it refers to NFS.  As far as I'm aware NFS is and always has been "Network File System" which is the prevalent way of setting up file shares on a Unix/Linux-based system.

The LMGTFY link I provided details how to install the NFS daemon on the DNS-323 which gives it the ability to set up said shares which Dbox2 needs access to write over the network to another *nix system.

Below is a section from the Dbox2 Docs:
Code: [Select]
NFS

You need an nfsd.  The directory for NFS has to be exported.  This is done in /etc/exports

/dbox2 dbox(rw,no_root_squash)

activate this by exportfs -a
or do a /etc/init.d/nfsd restart

You would need to do something similar from the 323 once the NFS daemon is installed.  I'm not saying it's going to be easy.  It's entirely possible to make this work.

Oh, thank you for the clarification. The only problem now is, that I don't know Linux at all. :) But I have a colleague, who might be able to help.

In the meantime if there is anyone, who think he/she could do this and would be able to share it with us, I/we would appreciate it very much.

Thank you very much!  :)
