Help with difference between PF, QOS, & AR
« on: July 27, 2012, 10:07:20 PM »

Ok, sorry for noob questions...

First, I am lost between the differences between Port Forwarding, QoS and Application Rules...

Second, here is what I am actually attempting to do:
5 PC's online at same time playing Diablo 3. All lag terribly, and I see posts saying to setup QoS, then another says port foward, then another says setup application rules. I want any PC running D3 to have top priority and max bandwidth...

If I try to set QoS, it has Protocol and Remote Port Ranges which I don't know what to put where.
If I try to Port Forward, it only wants to let me use one IP address for the ports needed, plus I don't understand the difference between TCP and UDP settings.
If I try Application Rules, it asks for a firewall port, which I don't know what to enter.

Diablo 3 uses ports 80, 1119, and 6881-6999

I have Rev A2 with 1.21 Firmware and all my machines are on Win7. Should I upgrade firmware? If so, which one?

Again, I apologize, this is like a novel, but I'm ready to throw keyboards... any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Kao

Welcome!
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

You can find some descriptions of these on the routers Help menu.

Second, here is what I am actually attempting to do:

You shouldn't need to do any port fowarding with Diablo 3. I play it and don't do any Port Forwarding or anything. I would recommend maybe setting up a GameFuel rule for the game and input a range for all 3 pcs. Review the Gaming and Gamefuel sticky in the FAQ Library particularly paying attention to the pictured example of PCs in the rule list.

I have Rev A2 with 1.21 Firmware and all my machines are on Win7. Should I upgrade firmware? If so, which one? If your not having any problems with the router, keep whats loaded. Should you have a need too, upgrade to v1.23. Use the FW Update Process when you do.

Again, I apologize, this is like a novel, but I'm ready to throw keyboards... any help will be greatly appreciated!
NO where near a novel. No need to appologize. Please feel free to ask questions anytime.

If you need help, Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.
