Problems accessing Google via dir 615
« on: July 16, 2012, 04:45:20 PM »

Dir 615, hardware version E4, Firmware version 5.1

Intermittent (95% of the time), problem accessing Google using my Android via wireless. A PC using XP on the same network has no problems. Using the Android on my local library's network I have no problems.

Have restored to factory default settings and reconfigured with no improvement. Would appreciate suggestions apart from using the Android in the library :)

Modem setup: Setup to connect to another router, UPnP disabled, DHCP server disabled, 802.11 mode -mixed 802.11n & 802.11g (Android connects using 802.11n PC uses 802.11g have forced Android to use 802.11g to no avail), Auto channel scan, (have tried fixed), Channel width 20/40, visible mode.

Internet connection Dynamic IP of course it is going out through my other Dlink ADSL 2 modem router. Also disabled QOS engine.

Would be grateful for any suggestions, am at wits end.

What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try WPA only and TPIK only or Auto.

Tried every combination of security setting, Android connected on all, but not to Google.

I can access other sites ie http://nz.yahoo.com/, microsoft.com but not Google or any affiliated sites. I have tried other  browsers, still no Google. I need Google to get the auto updating on the Android.

Google just hangs, occasionally I get an error on page message, but normally it just times out.

Try turning OFF WPA security temporarily and test?
Try putting the IP address of the 615 into the modems DMZ?

Is the LAN cable from the modem going to the WAN port or the LAN port on the 615? It should be LAN port, not WAN port, if your using the 615 as an AP.

No difference,

Security mode set to none.
DMZ set to modems IP address -not happy staying there for long!
Modem connected to lan port 2 on the 615

Am writing this on the Android with all the above settings

Please keep trying

Well this seems like a configuration issue between the modem and device possibly.
The only other thing I recommend is to set up the 615 as the host router and put the ISP modem into bridge mode and let the 615 handle the PPPoE connection from the ISP modem. IF after this the droid still doesn't work, then it's possible something from the modem isn't letting google information thru. I would contact your ISP and ask them if there is any help from them about making sure Google is working for androids and see if there is any log information on the modem about Google if there is a problem there.

Officially AP mode and any DGL/DIR series router is not supported by DLink and might not work corrrectly.

Off the record, I've tested a DIR-815, 655, 645 and a DGL-4500 and they all work well in AP mode. However I don't have any droids here. Google were here however I don't use Google much.

There maybe an issue between the modem and router as well. I would also recommend getting a DAP model AP from DLink which are designed for AP, bridge and relay on some models. These are officially supported by Dlink and might work better for you in this case. DAP-1525, 1533 or 1522 or 1360 are some models.

Thanks for trying, you have confirmed I was on the right track. Can't readily swap over modems as one is ADSL and the other is  wireless. Will have to wait until New Zealand is wired for broadband before i can justify buying a new modem.

By the way the ADSL router modem recommends theDIR-615

Looks like I will have to visit the library more often !

If they recommend the DIR-615 then I would contact your ISP and ask them to see if there is any information they might have to help you out. Other than this, check out the DAP model APs to see if one of them will fofill your wifi needs. Keep us posted and good luck.

Solved the problem in the end after lots of trying different things. The thing that fixed it was to make the connection static instead of dynamic. Runs fine now and connects to all sites.

Thanks for your help and thoughts, you may like to add that to your battery of fixes. Don't know why it should make a difference but it does, have tried it with two different addresses (10.1.1.2 & 10.1.1.99) and it worked both times.

Glad you found the fix.
One thing I always recommend:
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.

Enjoy.
