Shareport and printing
« on: August 21, 2012, 11:41:50 PM »

From what I've seen on this forum, and my own experience, D-Link has huge problems with Shareport/Routers and systems.  I just set up my DIR-655 Firmware 2.04NA with Shareport V. 4.0.0B2.  My problem seems yet different from anything I've read, although I simply don't have time to read every single post here about printing problems, there are so many.

My problem is that I cannot print from WordPerfect.  I can print from Notepad and from Microsoft Word, but not from WordPerfect.  There must be something different about how WordPerfect accesses the printer drivers from other programs, but that has never been an issue in any version of Windows I've ever used (going from Windows 3.1 to Windows 7.  But Shareport can't handle it.

Given all the individual problems with Shareport and routers and systems, for all these years, D-Link shouldn't bother with this at all, or completely rewrite the software.  I'm no programmer, but it sure seems like D-Link simply fixes problems with Shareport one by one instead of starting from scratch and writing a better program.  Maybe I'm naive and it's an impossible task.  If that's the case, they either shouldn't pretend to be able to make such a program, or make its limitations more widely known.

I used to be a big fan of D-Link.  This router is going back to the store.  Thanks D-Link, you've just wasted half a day for me.  If it weren't for this forum, I'd have wasted many days trying to get this thing to work.

If other programs are working w SP and WordPerfect doesn't, usually means the problem lies with that program, and not SP. This is a 3rd party SW program problem and not Dlinks. That program may be using outdated ways for processing and handling drivers and probably not coded correctly to handle how SP works or using proprietary ways if processing it own print jobs. Corel/WordPerfect is responsible on how there SW works and to be compliant on how it processes print jobs according to MS standards, not Dlink.

This is a end user and 3rd party SW problem. This isn't a Dlink issue.
Good Luck.
