Extending Range of my wifi with > D655 >> Booster Amplifier?

I am looking to extend my WIFI signal to cover 50 Acers.
I currently have 35’ height tower with Dir-655 in box with 3 big Omni directional Antennas.  It works but covers half of 50 Acers and it is slow.
I am thinking of buying 802.11b/g/n 2.3W Wifi Booster Amplifier. Please see jpg file and let me know if it will work?

One thing I would recommend trying is switching wireless modes from Mixed B/G/N to Single mode G or N or Mixed G and N. If you don't any any devices using B mode then theres no big reason to have the router broadcast something thats not going to use it and it will help improve signal out put from the 655. Using single modes could help the signal travel a bit farther as the signal is not being divided up into each mode. Thats a lot of acreage to cover. I would check with the Mfr of these boosters and Antennas to make sure what there specifications are and how much they will cover. Is most part, you be relying on the booster and external antenna to broadcast and get you the range you need.

Also notified one of our expert wireless users to chime in on this as well.

Please remember that WiFi is truly line of sight. 1 watt or 1000 watt, if you can't see it you cant talk to it. Excluding reflection and knife edge refraction.

What type of cable are you using to run the 35+ feet? This will be one of your biggest losses is the cable.

The antennas look a little close together, if they are too close together they will make a directional antenna and send all of your power in 2 directions. The wavelength for WiFi is around 5 inches, I would love to see at least 12 inches between EACH antenna.

What is your furtheset point you need to go either in feet or meters, then I will calculate the MINIMUM power you need, 50 acres can be in a lot of shapes.

Your cable is going to need to be exact in it's length for all 3 because if you are a little out of phase to the cable it will cause signal cancellation.

What is the gain of the antennas? What you are showing me in theory SHOULD work as long as some simple design considerations are followed.

Do you have the equipment to measure forward and reverse power?

Looking at the amps, they have bidirectional amplifacation, which boosts the recieve as well as the transmit. This is very important.

You absolutley MUST disable short GI with or without an amplifier, this will kill your speeds at these distances. Short GI disabled gives the reciever time to to get its sensivity back after transmitting. It usually comes disabled.

These amps PEAK at 2.3 watt, with the faster speeds that 802.11N gives it will be closer to 500Mw or maybe 750Mw. The only way to get them up to 2.3 watts is 802.11B which is only 10Mbps? 2.3 Watts is known as Chineese watts. They do not follow the worldwide standard for power measurement. Thats why they only have 20Watt US amps in their 1000Watt stereos........ There is a bunch of confusion about how the Chineese measure power output, but a bunch of us technicial folks figure the output test includes the amplifier being struck by lightening or running the device at 10X it's rated power and meausring the power quickly before the device blows up and releases all of its smoke.

Thanks for the suggestions...
I can definitely put the antennas in 2' apart.

I think the distance would be about 300 yards.

let me know if you guys need to know more to understand my situation.

Thanks alot guys!!!

Curious, this box you have the 655 installed with in...what kind of weather conditions happen in your area? You do realized these routers are probably not meant for any extreme weather conditions or meant for full time operation in a uncontrolled environment. I presume it would work for a period of time however the life of the router would probably be degraded sooner than expected. Just a thought.

Great stuff! I know Engineers that could not provide a site survey this well, are you too an Engineer?

Have you purchased all of the antennas and stuff yet?

There are some good commercial products I can direct you to that will work well in this situation that already have the power you want. The cost would be equal to or less then what you want to do now.

This is GREAT in design, the short cables and everything was well thought out. It appears you already have a high gain WiFi antenna up on the tower?

If I am going to recommend commercial gear, we should do it in private via PM. If you are open to this route, if you already have purchased everything then we may as well finish. Just a quick question, are you in the states? This only has to do with which equipment I will recommend, the support is still the same, FREE!

The power level you are looking at should be fine, until you get to the trees, then that will be a problem depending on how thick the trees are. I am currently using 1 watt with the antennas inside my house and I am getting 300Meters without a problem to a Android telephone, but it drops off quick after that proabally due to the size of the phones antenna, terrain and of course the bloody trees and the small antennas on the 1 watt A/P......

Furry, you are correct, this is a slight concern, heat and water being a primary issue. But it will work.

Awesome Patrick. Just wanted to point that out about environment. So can I send you my house plans to review for proposed wireless AP placement?  ???

Getting ready to put in low level wiring and have been doing some pre-planning on CAT and wireless placement. Let me know if you can take a look.
