Dlink configurations
« on: August 11, 2012, 12:31:09 AM »

I live in Canada and i have Shaw internet connection. I've been lagging really bad when my sister uses the laptop upstairs with wireless connection. Just 1 computer makes me have up to 100 ping, imagine 3. How can configure my settings so that i will stop lagging or configure so that i have priority.

I have a Dlink 655 Version A4 with the latest firmware 1.35

Might have a look at Gaming and Gamefuel for XBL.. It's for gaming however there are examples for PCs.

I followed most of the configurations and it seems to work. When i play games my ping is normal and outside of games my ping goes up to 200+, even if there is no one on the laptop and using my internet. Is there a way to make it so all teh time my pings stays below 100

if your gaming and pings are good then when your not gaming and pings are bad, I would presume there is something on your system that is the cause of your high ping rates. Turn off all devices accept one PC. Then make sure nothing is running on the PC that could be sending or rcvg data traffic or using bandwidth. If pings are good with the PC, then turn on the next device and test. Keep doing this until you find out what is causing the pings to go up.

I did some test to see why my ping is so high. I figured out that when I open League of Legends it goes up to 200+ ping, but when i go in game it goes back to 70. Probably because I configure the QoS settings. Is there anyway to get around this? Before if I were to leave it on my ping would still stay under 100.

EDIT: I was playing castleville on facebook and I went pass 100+ ping. I know that my shaw high speed internet 10 is not fast and I can't expect much, but there has to be some way to configure my settings to be better. It was never like this before.

I would check your ISP modem and connections, make sure the signal going into the modem is at proper levels. Get the ISP to check this. If your on Cable, make sure there aren't any TV line splitters between the ISB cable box out side and the modem. These can lower signal going into the modem. If you need a splitter, use 1 good quality one. Might check to see if your modem needs to be updated or upgraded. I prefer using my own modems however not sure if your ISP allows that. Ask. If you can, I recommend Motorola SB 6 series cable modems.

If your on DSL, make sure the phone lines are in good condition and filtered correctly.

Use CAT 6 cables between the ISP MODEM, router and wired PCs.

i'm not sure if this helps, but I found a post on leagueoflegends about internet lag and there was this post about checking your internet. http://n3.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/summary/id=ae81b058-13162-44b3cd65-91c8-473f-9abc#tcp_connectivity

I would start with your ISP and make sure they and the lines going into the ISP modem are good. Make sure your PC(s) are running well, drivers updated and no malware.

You say it was never like this before? If so, then something has changed on the ISP side of things or on your system that seems to be the cause.

Let us know how that all works out.

thanks for the suggestion, but I added exceptions to my firewall to allow LeagueOfLegends and it seems to work fine now.
