Hello,

So i am looking for some help with adding my WDTVLiveHub to my wireless network. All my other devices on my network can be browsed and connect to the internet just fine. The WDTVLiveHub can be seen on the network, I can ping it. But i cannot browse it, and i cannot connect to the internet. When i use the feature to check connection i can it gets its IP Address and DNS is fine, the third option Internet Connection fails.

I recently purchased a DIR-835. My modem used is a Cisco DPC3825.

Previously, i could browse the WDTVLiveHub and the internet connection worked for this device when using the wireless that the Cisco Modem offered OOB. I had not changed any of the defaults settings.

After purchasing the DIR-835, i had the Cisco DPC3825 put into bridge mode, so i could take advantage of the DIR-835 and use it for my wireless network.

I had the problem with the previous version of the DIR-835 firmware, so i updated it to the most recent v3.06.14. I have reserved IPs for all devices on my network. I have Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router, ensured devices are set to auto obtain an IP address, and set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. I have enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP. I have set up both bands to use WPA2-PSK and AES. QOS is disabled, Advanced DNS is disabled. Multicasting is Enabled. This is as much as i can remember off the top of my head as i am not home atm, i will update accordingly later but i am pretty sure that this is it. My internet is setup as Dynamic DHCP.

I am unable to turn off ShortGI, maybe this is the issue? As i said the only device that is being tempremental is the WDTVLiveHub. I have also posted in the WD Community but i was advised to try here as well.

Is this hub a device on the local LAN side or is this a service on the WAN or web side of the router?

What region are you located?

Are you sure the ISP Modem is in bridge mode?
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try:

Can you connect to a shared folder on a different PC from another?

Have you checked with the Mfr of this device to see if there is any configuration or setup and or specific setup to be able to use this device. Seem like if all other devices are working and this one isn't, there could be something you missing when using this device. Something on the device isn't set up correctly maybe.

Yes, i can connect from my Window 7 machine to a network share on my Windows XP laptop and also on my Macbook laptop. So i am starting to believe that this is an issue with the device itself. I was looking at the internet connections on the router and i could see some out traffic happening from the device, i have been looking at some of the traffic with Wireshark, though i am new to using it.

I will follow up with the manufacturer, I have a post on thier support forums. The administration features of the device are fairly limited. I think i can pretty much eliminate the router as being an issue. Thanks for your time.

I'm a member over at the WD forums and have the same unit as you. I'm in United States and using the latest firmware 3.06.14 as well. I've had a LOT of issues (and see a lot of other people) having issues with the unit and network connectivity. I'll be honest I'm not as knowledgeable as Furrynutz, but I can explain what I've been through. By the way the people over at the WD forums are pretty nice and reply pretty quick usually too.

First off, I didn't see it mentioned.. what are you using wireless or wired? If wireless, what wireless adapter are you using?

I have my unit about 20 or 25 feet away from the router. I originally had a D-LINK DWA-130 USB adapter, and a Netgear WRN2000V3 router. I always lost connectivity randomly and signal was kind of poor. I would sometimes be able to copy files from my computer to the WD, but a lot of times it would lose connection while doing so. When viewing YouTube, the videos would always LAG or STUTTER or not play at all.

I purchased a D-LINK DIR-825 and it works beautifully. Maybe because the USB adapter and the router are the same company now?

The only thing I did was go into the router and reserve it an IP using the MAC address of my USB adapter. I didn't touch anything else.

It works 99.9% of the time. I say 99.9% because one time I had an outage for some reason, but it did not last long, so I'm not sure what it was.

File transfer speeds are better than what my Netgear was.. not a lot better, but at least better. As you know the WD unit is not a true NAS, so it has only one processor to handle everything from copying files, to playing files, etc. So, WD claims there's now way around it being a poor performer.

Hey yuppicde, thanks for chiming in. It has been a while, just have not had time to update this post but i have not yet solved my issue. I am using a wireless network.

Things i have done is rolled back my FW for the WDTVLiveHub decrementally from Release 3.06.14  to Release 2.08.13. Which has brought back Netflix (I am in Canada) but regardless, I still cannot connect to the internet via the WDTVLiveHub or browse the files.

I can now ping the WDTVLiveHub, i can also see it listed under Net View. I cannot browse the files on it, I also cannot connect to the Web Twonky Server at port 9000.

The rest of the home wireless network is working fine, reserved IP addresses good network speed. It seems to be more of an issue with the WDTVLiveHub but it was working at one point with a different modem/router the Cisco DPC3825.

Well just thought i would update. I caved in a changed things around, and now have connected the WDTVLiveHub via wired LAN. It is working, could be the DWA-160vA2 dongle, but i doubt that as it was working previously...  so more than likely, there is an issue in how i had the wireless configured. Anyways, thanks again for the assistance.
