DI LB604 load balancing problem.
« on: August 14, 2012, 08:23:14 AM »

Hi,

We have been using DLink Load Balance router 604 for the few months.

We have two internet connections for backup purpose. We have one line with upto 8Mbps and 2nd line is 1Mbps. We always assume that LB Router will combine these two lines speed and give the better speed.

But when we have tested the speed with speedtest.net it is showing the speed is showing 0.78Mbps. But when we connected first line only then the speed showing as 4Mbps.

I doubted whether the load balance is working properly with my device?

Regards,
Ramakrishna.

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

This router has been discontinued since 2007. Even though it should work well at the moment. It might be time to get into a new router.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Can you please let me know what are other model routers we have in DLink to replace this Router with Dual WAN Ports facility?

Regards,
Ramakrishna.

Only routers I know of that have dual WAN ports is the DSR series. I believe the DSR-500 and 1000 Series have 2 WAN ports...

Contact DLink Sales regarding this. They will have specific information for your needs.

Hi,

Hardware verision: A1
Firmware version : V.1.02.
I am from India.
we are connected to the router through wire.
We have two lines one is DSL modem and the second one is Cable.
We have ADSL Modem from one service provider.
The modem make is from UTStarcom with model number:WA3002G4.
We have router facility in my modem, probably we may have issue with Double NAT.

Hi,

Sorry for the late comeback.

I put bsnl modem under bridge mode and configured router with pppoe. Now there is no chance of Double NAT.
Even after making these changes I didn't find any change in the speed. As I said previously it some times show the speed with in the limit of the second line when tested with two lines connected. When connected with single line it shows more speed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Ram.

I would try looking at the user manual and see if there is any information regarding LB and attaining speeds.
Not sure If there is any QoS options on this router or not.
Seems like there might a settings with in the routers web page for adjustment of the connections.

This router has been phased out and no longer supported I think. I would contact Dlink on the phone and ask them what model router they currently have that supports LB on dual WAN connections.

Let us know what they say.
Good luck.

I would also check the MTU settings on the router. Cable should be 1500, for DSL lines, call your ISP and ask, generally they are between 1492 and 1472.

There is Load Balance options on page 19 of the User manual. Might check this and see if anything here can be configured.
