825 and 835 are about the same, just the 835 has faster WiFi and a different QoS Engine. UI is about the same as well.

The DGL-4500  ;D But they don't make it any more.  :'(

What region are you located?

The 825 is a great router. Works just as good as the others. Kind of depends if your looking for faster WiFi. Still need 5Ghz and you supporting WiFi A/C yet? I'm currently testing the DIR-835. Solid router. I do like the external antenna vs internal. However I do like my DIR-857. Been a great router since the DGL-4500.

Let us know what you think and what your needs are and what you'd like to get.

Just itching to upgrade due to sporadic issues popping up here and there with my DIR-825 (wifi droops, XBL game drops, etc)

Lets try some trouble shooting first to see if we can find the problem. Upgrading to a new router might exhibit the same things.

Can you answer and try some of the following?
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Has a Factory Reset been performed?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.

WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

For XBL, please review the following and test it: It does work well.
Gaming and Gamefuel for XBL.

Can you answer and try some of the following? Yeppers!
What region are you located? Ocala, Florida, United States
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Xbox 360 Slim wireless
Has a Factory Reset been performed? No

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? Cox Communications cable internet
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router? Modem, no built in router, stand alone
What ISP Modem make and model do you have? Cisco DPC 3010

I've seen that posted info while browsing through the forums and have tweaked all settings as recommended. Also, noticed while streaming HD video from a NAS to a laptop to TV seems sometimes streaming is flawless other times buffer runs out and movie stops or sputters somewhat. Not very pressing issues but I do like for my internal network to run smooth!

All wires are Cat6 here is connected devices, types, and methods: iMac wired, Synology NAS wired, iMac wireless, iPad3 wireless, 3 PC laptops wireless, macbook wireless, 3 iPhones wireless, Xbox 360 S wireless.  So lots of streaming usually - Netflix, movies from NAS, occasionally file moving around from NAS to other devices. So ideally just want a beast of a router that can handle all those devices and keep it all running smooth with drops, or issues.

Has a Factory Reset been performed? No I know it's a pain however might want to try a factory reset maybe at some point and set the router up from scratch. Lets see how this configuration goes for now.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? Cox Communications cable internet
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router? Modem, no built in router, stand alone
What ISP Modem make and model do you have? Cisco DPC 3010 Any chance Cox allows Motorola SB 6 Series modems? I.e. 6141?

One thing I recommend when using routers and doing lots of file xfers or video streaming between devices on the LAN side, get a external Gb network switch. This helps eliminate any unnecessary router management and processing interference while doing xfers and streaming between devices on the LAN side of things. Most routers with the ports in back have some sort of management processing going on on the ports thus there is some degradation on speed as it's having to process the data thats coming in and out of it. Having a external switch eliminates this. I highly recommend you get one. I use a 24pt. The only other items wired to the back of the router iare my 2 xboxes.  ;D
