The SMART test on my primary 2TB disk (Right disk) gives a Fail message. So, I decided to changed it with a new 3TB disk. My firmware version is the latest official release v2.03, after being on beta for several months.

What is the best way to copy all my files from the old 2TB disk to the new 3TB disk?

I placed the new disk to the Left slot, formated it, and tried to copy everything at once using the web UI. It did not work, it just copied some folders and few files. Now, I am copying one folder at the time. But, it is taking a lot of time to transfer from one disk to the other!

Currently, I am still using the web UI to move one folder at the time.

Does the copy always fail in the same place? This is pure speculation, but some of the older ShareCenter models (e.g. DNS-321/323/343) had issues with copying files via the web UI with file names containing special characters.

I tried copying everything at once only one time, waited long hours to realize it was not copying everything (so, I cannot identify if the process stopped with one specific file).

Now, I am copying one folder at the time. So far, it does not give me any errors... but it is very slow to copy from the Right disk to the Left disk.

With the first approach of copying everything at once I noticed that some files were not copied entirely, but only some bytes (thankfully the complete originals stayed in the old disk). In those cases, with the new approach the folders will not be overwritten and I have to overwrite the files themselves.

What I did previously was to do the copying via shell access (need FFP) which allow me to run it as background process without the need to leave the PC running. IIRC, it took like an hour to copy 100GB across drive.

It may not be as fast as copying internally, but I would use a PC and copy with Teracopy. I use it to copy files of all sizes, in batches of 100GB+. Also, it CRC checks all the files as it goes.

Yes, it's sad that such a simple feature as shell access is not available on the stock firmware!!

Sometime this is not an option as not all has access to desktop PC, my working PC is a laptop. Also doing data transfer via PC would require the device to be on turned-on for hours.
