Brand New User, Cannot Open avi files
« on: October 27, 2012, 09:15:20 AM »

I've read this whole board and cannot see anything on here.  I have a large number of avi files and this unit will not open any of them.  Do I need to convert them?

I have one mp4 file and indeed it works.

Instead of having to convert hundreds of avi files is there any way to add in / update codecs?

Thanks and sorry if this is a rather dumb question.  But I do not see a lot of information on the web so far for this unit.

How do you open the movie files with this NAS?
Or did you mean DLNA server?
For that purpose, you might be better off with a Twonky media server.

Thanks for the reply priitv8

I figured out it was my TV; it does not support avi; only mkv and mp4.  So I tried using my son's xBox as a test.  It plays them, but the quality is not that great.

I am currently converting a bunch of files to mp4's.  Tested a few and they are pretty good.

Thanks.
