Help!
« on: October 26, 2012, 12:39:57 PM »

Hi All,

I've had the DNS-320 for a few months now, it's doing its main job just fine, it's happily looking after all of my data. However, it doesn't seem to be doing the other things I hoped it would.

Firstly, whenever I try to access any media via DLNA (on multiple devices) the NAS is listed, but none of the files are. UPnP AV server is enabled, I've added specific folders as well as keeping the 3 default folders. But none of the devices on my network show any of the media. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

And the other thing is that when I log in to Ajaxplorer I can't browse or see any of the data stored on the NAS. I can create documents and folders in the Ajaxplorer folder on the route of the drive and I can see these in Ajaxplorer, but I can't see any of the folders/data outside of that. I am logging in as Admin so have full permissions over the data.

Any suggestions or help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

If you are an advanced user, I recommend Mediatomb. You will need to install fun_plug though.
The default UPnP is very robust.

I heard Twonky is good, but not free.

Thanks Shabuboy, if I can help it though, I'd much rather use the standard capabilities.

Surely configuration/troubleshooting of the UPnP AV server must be documented somewhere? The user guide has very little in it to help this kind of issue.

The fact I get the same behaviour (NAS available but no files listed) on multiple devices (iPad, Samsung Tab, xBox and DLNA Blu-Ray) would point to something like permissions? Is there anything specific I should look for in permissions to make sure data is available via DLNA?

Can anyone help? Does anyone from D'Link read these forums?

Thanks

The sad thing about DNS's DLNA server is, that it is a Firefly Media Server, which is not even under active development any more.
You might want to look at pages telling about configuring the mt-daapd for that.
But personally, I don't think it is a configuration issue, but the capabilities of mt-daapd issue.
I'm saying this because I've got much better DLNA serving from Twonky Media Server on my own DNS-325, from exactly the same NAS and content and conf.
At the end of the day I am not very happy with it still, because my Sony Bravia is very picky on supported video formats. Pics and music are somewhat less of a problem.
YMMV.
