Im adding a new drive to the NAS and as I understand it to setup JBOD need to format the drives. So Im in the process of copying everything off. Problem is this is taking ages to move 2TB of data. My speed never exceeds 6MB/s. Im using a gigabit-usb adapter on the pc then gigabit everything after that. Any way to improve speeds ? If its this slow to read i dread the writing process. Thanks

You are downloading from the NAS to your PC via a pure GB wired network?  If this is the case, then throughput should exceed 30 MB/s

hahaha I wish it was 30MB. The bottle neck would be a gigabit to USB adapter which would be around 60MBs lets say 50MB including overhead. So I should be getting much faster. Any ideas as to why?? Drive is setup via control panel just mapped normally. I have funplug installed running transmission and twonky server.

Is it the dlink? have you tried copying files to / from another device on the network?

Hi I have the problem

I have just writen to D-link support about the same issue

This is what I wrote:
I am having troubles with low speeds on file transfers.
My MAX transfer speed to the DNS-320 is 6-11 MB/sec

I have tried both upgrade and downgrade the firmware.
Resetting the settings to default for every firmware version
I have tried different cables
I have tried putting it manually to Gigabit
I use CAT6 cables. I have tried enabling / disabling Jumbo frames
I have tried a Cisco gigabit switch.
And connecting it directly between and NAS

My hard disks are:
2 stk. SAMSUNG HD103UJ  (NOT IN RAID)

I also tried with a Seagate Barracuda ST3500320AS

But i transfer files between the two hard disks with built-in Application "Web File Server", it is also very very slow

My conclusion is that it is a problem with the dns-320


I really need your help here. 

I can see on forums i am not the only one with this problem, but i hope for a solution to these problems

Seany, I think you will find the problem is your gigabit/USB adapter. 

We have yet to find one that gives anything near 100baseT speeds.  The speed is largely dependant on the quality of the converter chip and its firmware, if any.  Most of them suffer from noise which caused dropped packets which in turn causes the network protocol to negotiate a much lower speed - hence the time you are seeing.

You would find it faster to just put a gigabit network card in your PC and use a direct wired connection.

Thanks for the replys, I have nothing else on the network to test speeds so I cant test something else. Im getting a new laptop next week that has better wireless and gigabit ethernet so I will test both of them to see what happens. Backing up my data has been soul destroying at such slow speeds, still 400GB left to transfer to my backup drive  I'll report back next week when I transfer with the new laptop

I would highly recommend a Gb external network switch if u dont have one yet.

I have one already, not used by the NAS as its other end of room. Wouldnt make a difference anyway because the router is gigabit would it?

I highly recommend connecting the DNS to the network swtich. Yes, if the router is Gb, thats good however being connected to the switch will eliminate and router processing thats uneccessary that impacts performance.

I've personally observed substantial NAS <-> PC performance gains routing traffic directly through a GB switch rather than my GB router. You're best bet is to at least test NAS/PC throughput through the switch to see if there is an appreciable performance difference.

I also I have the same problem.

I tested with a gigabit router, 2 gigabit hub and not always step of 6 MB / s.

Is there any solution. The NAS is configured with two 2TB HD in raid1. firwm 2.03

That would be cause of firmware 2.03.

Maybe you can try downgrading firmware to 2.02 (i personally have not done that yet).
