Hi
I think I have a problem with my DNS 323 - its is constantly operating at 43 or 44 deg c (109f) - the network LED is always blinking (which I have been told is normal but even after it has been left with no activity for hours - its still at about that temp.  It also keeps shutting down - as a result of this I suppose.....I have set the power management to hibernate the HDDs after 5 mins...I have noticed that the drive is alwsy instantly accessible on my computer whereas before it took a few seconds to access after it had not been used for a while.
I am using firmware 1.06 and haven't got it connected to a printer - there are no print jobs in the queue...what on earth could be wrong??  Or is this normal operating temp when idle???

43 or 44 deg c (109f) is about normal operating temperature. Maybe a little cooler if the device is hibernating. Does the big blue square D-link button on the front go dim at any point or does it seems to stay lit up all of the time?

Actually, the "normal" temperature would depend on the ambient temperature and the drives you use - mine runs closer to 118*F, 49*C and that's when it's hibernated - I live in the tropics and ambient is usually 83*~86*.

Do I think it's too hot - well - after two years I haven't had a drive failure.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

With WD 1TB green drives, my 323 is usually at 90F/32C with the drives powered down  and the room at 68F.  Really exercising both drives heats the system to 43C.

in my 323 i have 2 seagate 1.5 TB drives and i am normally at the 43/44 degrees celius ... i have had it for 2 months and it runs 24/7 and is always downloading bt's and haven't had any issues at all

I also have two WD Green 1TB drives (333GB platter version) and when my 323 is active it runs at 43c.

i have 2 seagate 750's and i've been pounding them all day

temperature is 118F/48C at last check! the ambient room temp is 81F
