Trying to setup DIR-655 with Linksys WAG320n
« on: November 20, 2012, 01:03:05 AM »

Hi folks, hoping someone here can help me with this. Have been reading this thread Topic: Turning a router into an AP in the hope of setting up the router as a wireless ap in my garage (it has a hardwired connection out there but I want wireless there too). Following the steps is fairly straightforward until I get to the following part.....
8. You may now use the other 3 LAN ports to connect other Ethernet devices and computers. To configure your wireless network, open a web browser and enter the IP address (192.168.0.50) you assigned to the router. Recommend using Mixed G and N or Single G or N modes. Refer to the Configuration and Wireless Security sections for more information on setting up your wireless network.
I cannot access the router config menu as it just doesnt seem to exist, but when I look at the network map I can clearly see the DIR-655 connected. Everything is, at the moment, connected via ethernet, so there should be no problem but for some reason it just wont communicate. its driving me batty as everything else seems to be fine!
Any ideas on where I should start would be greatly appreciated. Have tried resetting the unit multiple times but no luck.

Did you re-assign the DIR-655 running in AP mode a new IP address under Setup/Networking/Router Settings?
If so, any PC should be able to access the 655s web at using the new IP address, i.e. 192.168.0.50, if the 655 is connected to the main host router and all other devices are getting an IP address. Ensure the IP address and subnet mask and gateway are all on the same pool range as the host router.

Ensure you disable ALL other features like SPI, WISH, WPS, any Filters, DHCP and uPnP and the LAN cable is connected to one of the 4 ports. WAN port is no longer used. If this has been done, access to the 655 running in AP mode should work and access to its web page.

Check the cable to ensure it's working properly as well between the main host router and 655.
