I recently got a new laptop which seems to be having issues connecting wirelessly to the D-link DIR615. When I first got the new laptop I was connecting to a (couple of) different network(s) without any issues, until I got it home when issues started to appear.

At first it would connect wirelessly to the router, stay connected for a few minutes and then drop to "No Internet Access", although it still said I had network access it was unable to ping even the router. My other laptop connected to the same router right next to it still worked fine.

After playing around with the settings for a few days without any luck, I now don't get the "No Internet Access" warning and Windows continues to say it is connected, even after the connection looks to have dropped. I usually get enough time connected to open 1 web page and then the connection is gone. Even in these first few minutes the connection is very slow, less than 0.3MB/s compared to another laptop getting 55MB/s connected to the same router. If I connect the laptop with a cable the speed goes back up to normal 55MB/s. At this point when pinging the router, either the packets get lost or are very very slow (>1500ms, only 1ms on the other laptop) I've tried everything I can think of but can't work out why I get these issues with one laptop on this network only but not with any other laptop or on any other network.

I'll give as much other information as I can:

Both machines are windows 7, using the default wireless connection

Machine with issues has an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 135 card.

Router is connected to a Virgin Cable Modem

Connection goes from the modem to the 615, then wirelessly to 2 laptops, and wired to an Xbox and 2 more PCs.

Router HW Version D4

Router FW Version 1.01

All drivers are up to date, firmware on router claims its up to date

Security is 64bit WEP, Authentication Open. (I've tried all other encryptions, including open)

The "Wireless Status" page in the router shows the following
(101 is the working laptop, 102 is the one with issues)

Router channel is shown as 6, I've also tried 11 to match Mode (as above) but didn't help

All other settings on the router are default

To Summarize:

2 laptops both connect fine to other networks
On the DIR615, 1 laptop connects perfectly but one does not
The laptop only stays connected for a few minutes, and is very slow while it is connected
Wireless works fine on all other machines, and when connected via cable the laptop with issues also works

What region are you located?

Does the one LT work correct if wired LAN to the 615?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition,and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Region is Europe (UK)

Both laptops work flawlessly when wired, only wireless is causing issues

All QoS is off (never turned it on)

Don't seem to have any options for DNS Relay, and no Networking tab under Setup

Ok this bit is weird. I've added reserved DHCP IPs for both laptops, but in the setup screen where there is a drop down with a list of device names, the laptop I'm having issues with appears twice, with each one having a different MAC address. I've setup the working laptop as .101 (its normal address) and the other laptops correct MAC address as .102 (which it normally is) and the unknown MAC as .104 (It shows device name as "Steve-Laptop", same as the other one). After setting reserved IPs connection is still the same, no improvement.

All machines are set to auto obtain IP addresses, is there any particular setting you would like me to check in the setup?

I don't seem to be able to see any setting for "Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall." on the router. All windows firewalls / anti virus is off on the laptop.

Enabled uPnP / Multi-cast Streaming and disabled uPnP, re-tested, no changed

Wireless Mode is set to 802.11 Mixed N/G/B. Tried G-only but no change

Channel Width is set for Auto 20/40Mhz. Tried the other option but didn't make any difference

There are many other WiFi signals in the area from neighbours etc.

Sorry can't see any options for WISH or WPS on any router page

Dont see any options relating to Short GI, WLAN Partition or Extra Wireless Protection

In the router under Setup -> Wireless Setup -> Manual I have an option for "WMM Enable (Wireless QoS)" which is On, but greyed out. On the wireless card properties I do have an option for "Ad Hoc QoS Mode" with options for WMM On/Off, I've turned this on now but no change.

Have removed all firewalls and Anti virus software, and tried testing while in Safe mode as well.

Have tried with only the 1 laptop connected. When wired it works fine but when connecting wirelessly the usual issues arise.

If it helps, here are all the config options on the wireless card under Properties -> Configure -> Advanced:

Can try turning off SHORT GI.

I would presume if both devices are working correctly on wired LAN, and 1 of the 2 devices works well on wireless and not the 2nd device, think that the WiFi adapter and or drivers are not working, not configured correctly, or becoming defective on the problem device. As you have proven that other devices works with the 615.

Yes having 2 Mac in the list should not be seen. I recommend that you turn off the 615 and both LTs. Turn ON the 615 and let it come to ready. Turn on the problem LT and let it come to ready and connect on Wireless. Look at the drop down list again and check to see if there is one or more MAC addresses listed for the one LT. If so, reserver it and give it a new name, like add Wireless to the end of the name. Now, disable and turn OFF the WiFi adapter on the LT if possible. Reboot the 615 and let it come to ready. This time connect the LT LAN wired connection to the 615. Again, check the DHCP reservation drop down list. This should be a different MAC address listed. IF so, reserve it and give it a name and include WIRED with the name. Save settings.

Now you should be able to disconnect the wired LAN cable and re-enable the WiFi adapter and reconnect. Test and see if any issues are seen while testing this LT only. Leave the other one OFF for now.
