DNS-320
« on: November 29, 2012, 10:28:27 AM »

Hello,
I´ve recently purchased the DNS-320 ShareCenter, and have some questions.
In a RAID 1 configuration, what should I do to upgrade to bigger HD´s in the future without data loose?
It´s as simple as changing one of the HD´s first, rebuild, and then the other?
If so, will the RAID 1 upgrade to the new entire HD´s space without formatting?

Thanks!

For a start make sure you have a backup of your data that you put on the DNS-320 - any form of RAID is NOT a backup.  With RAID1 it just means that your data will always be available if one disk dies.

If you get to the stage of needing larger disks then the best way of transferring your data is to either use your backup or put one of the old disks into a USB caddy and plug that into a computer that can read the Ext2/3 file system and copy it over from there.  Putting a larger disk in in place of one of the disks will only give you the same size RAID array with some empty space on the larger disk.
