Changelog for 1.07??
« on: April 16, 2009, 02:19:07 PM »

Is there a list of changes/fixes/additions for 1.07? or did you guys really only address the Hitachi drive issue and leave out the rest of the necessary fixes and changes for this firmware?..

Just curious.. Since with the exception of the Hitachi drive sticky... no other mention of 1.07 is forthcoming on this forum on this update and the "wishlist" has been removed from the thread????....

WOndering if its even worth the bother to update or just a waste of time and addresses nothing..??

The change log is documented as a text file embedded in the firmware download .zip file.  It says 1.07 only contains a fix for the Hitachi disks.

Figures   >:( Given that a request for user wish list for this version release was instigated by D-Link, That the "wish list" of user responses removed from this forum by D-Link and the only reference to any changes suggest it only contains a fix for the Hitachi Hard drive issue should have D-link reeling in embarrassment.

Should have been identified as version 1.06a or something.. not 1.07.. The expectations of users, expectations led by D-link through soliciting user responses for the upcoming release... How does any of this instill confidence of users of the products.. ITS SHAMEFUL and DISGUSTING CORPORATE BEHAVIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah I find it funny they fixed support for a larger drive, never mind the fact that there is a high risk when you upgrade a single drive that it might format the other.

First a DIR-655 v1.30 snafu and now a DNS-323 v1.07 snafu - both in 24 hours?  Hehehe..  Snafu, indeed.

Just giving D-Link a hard time.  :)  A minor version release would have been more appropriate, but I'm sure DeathStar owners will enjoy the release nonetheless.

To address your issues, ALL firmwares were bumped one version to fix hitachi drive compatibility across the board for NAS. This does not mean that we aren't still working on firmware with changes it is just now called 1.08 in the DNS-323's case.

The wishlist was already removed and reviewed and we are in the process of implementing some changes. I removed the thread today to not cause any more confusion with version numbers.

The hitachi drives are a high priority fix to us and on that note we try not to add letters like a/b etc after already existing firmwares when possible for OFFICIAL releases.

Take too long to fix a problem, people gripe; too much time between firmware releases, more gripes; release a firmware to "quickfix" a single problem, even more gripes - this reminds me of the Aesop fable with the old man, his son and the donkey - you cannot please everyone, might as well just please yourself :)

I have a forum .... then might as well gripe.

When the 1st rule in troubleshooting gets changed. I will be happy.

If you dont know by now what it is, from both dlink forums and dlink help desk here it is

1. reset unit to default
2. power down unit and unplug
3. plug back in and reformat

This should fix your problem.

I don't have Hitachi drives, but I'm glad they released a firmware so the folks that do can actually use them.  As long as the next release is still in the works and not being held up, I'm ok with it. :)

Its been a long time since 1.06 so I hope the release of 1.07 doesn't mean that 1.08 will be another 6 months, there are just to many problem that need fixing to wait that long again plus the time for people to use and report problems.
I am still using 1.04 and will do until a version of the firmware that is stable with very few bug is released how ever long that takes.

Take too long to fix a problem, people gripe; too much time between firmware releases, more gripes; release a firmware to "quickfix" a single problem, even more gripes

I work in an organization where we have specific guidelines regarding version control & numbering so that's the perspective where my comment comes into view:  M.m.R.P  Major Release, Minor Release, Revision, Patch.  Generally we don't have patch or revision releases to the public, but internally it's frequently used before merging back into our Main branch.  From my perspective 1.07 was an oddity because it only addressed a functionality issue addressed by a revision or patch.  So 1.06.1 or 1.06a would have been what I expected.  :)

I do agree with D-Link Multimedia in that there should be a more consistent experience with software releases.  Over its lifetime, the 323 has two "b" releases: 1.01b & 1.02b.  At least when they do the "b" versioning, internally they don't have to rename 1.07 to 1.08 (and all subsequent releases that need to get bumped) and the public doesn't have to wonder "is what was going into 1.07 going into 1.08" or necessitate admin commentary explaining where did the 1.07 we were expecting go?

Heheh, well. they set themself up for fail. 1.07 had a chance to be this holy grail of a frimware, then at the last min. deside to only fix 1 thing and bump the rest out to some date/firmware.

yeah you going to gat some *****ing.
