XBOX 360 53-C00DF238 Error
« on: May 07, 2009, 09:30:14 PM »

Well I'm new to the DNS-321 dlink NAS family...  Hooray for going GREEN!!

Tonight I hooked up my new lil NAS box, upgraded the firmware to 1.01.
Slid a WD Caviar Green 1.5TB in.
Loaded the quick search software to get to the NAS from Windows Vista 64bit.
I allowed the NAS to format the drive
The NAS did sit around 94% for about 10 to 15mins during the format process, but after reading about this, I was totally expecting a 45 min wait, at the 94% point.

Time to test it with the XBOX 360!!

I left the NAS' default IP address @ 192.168.0.10 .
Enabled NAS' UPnP Server.
Made a folder, dropped an .AVI file in it.
Unchecked "Root"
Browsed to the folder with the .AVI file in it.
Clicked “Save Settings”
Clicked "Refresh".
Web Page went to "100%"

Tried to watch an .AVI file....
Xbox 360
No luck!!
Xbox sees the Dlink, and can maneuver down to the .AVI file I put on the Dlink NAS.
However, I got a "53-C00DF238" error from the xbox 360 when I attempted to actually view the video.

Read the forums about problems with the PS3 and UPnP… when 192.168.0.xxx is used…
Forums folks say… use 192.168.1.xxx because it’s a confirmed problem.

I switched the DNS-321 IP address over to 192.168.1.10… and I can now watch my videos on my XBOX 360.

Question… What is the deal with  xxx.xxx.0.xxx  causing UPnP based video playback to fail???

It is a bug...and it has already been corrected in an upcomming firmware.

What's the projected date for your next firmware release?

BTW, outside of the quirk, very nice product!!
Small, neat, quiet... and an electricity bill saver.

It is in beta right now however it has not been officially approved and has not gone through stability testing. Can't really give you an eta at this time.
